  • Noisy AC

So this car is starting to wear very thin on me..

Got in the car this afternoon, started it, air conditioning powers up and makes a noise as if something is striking the fan. Noise increases and decreases based on the speed setting. AC on/off doesn't have an affect.

Sounds like leaf litter in the blower fan.

When was the cabin filter last replaced?

Major service last Thursday. I'll check the job sheet but I'm sure that is something that would've been done.

I suppose that makes sense though. All this rain, moisture in the air, probably why the air smells damp when the AC is off.

The car is going back tomorrow for castor bush replacement, they can check it out.

They're not too hard to do. Probably 30 minutes tops.

Glovebox out, and the blower motor is basically the bottom section of the HVAC unit.

I think it's also possible to do without removing the glovebox. We shall find out tomorrow

                Thanks Becke......

Took the opportunity to have a look at it myself this afternoon. **** of a job removing the glovebox, a lot of jiggling and swearing. Anyway, managed to remove the blower motor and this was inside. I'd say Sydney's hot weather over the last couple of months affected the adhesive and it's fallen in from up higher.

Certainly is a result.. It makes me wonder though, did they inspect it properly or just start the car and run the AC and listen to the noise. FYI I was quoted $125 for a blower motor from a wrecked Passat with 80k on the clock so there is an affordable fix if anyone else has the same issue. 30 minutes and the work is done.
