Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Headlight Level Sensor

Anyone have any experience with these? Not sure, but think there are two - one on front and one on rear axle. I just noticed the one on the rear axle (just behind rear passenger wheel) is broken - sheared off. I now need to fit a new one - I assume it stops the lights from blinding people if you have passengers in the back seats and luggage in the boot? Not sure how critical otherwise?

Now, VW have quoted $318 for this part (includes GST). "Googled" and found lots on EBay and elsewhere. Anything to be wary of? Looks pretty simple to fit though. Any suggestion/s re place/s to buy from? Don't think any input from VCDS required - just replace sensor (two bolts)?

Have been having a bit of luck with the old JB Weld; so, removed the sensor, cleaned it thorougly with degreaser spray then IPA and a toothbrush. Applied JB Weld to broken piece and left for a week. Reinstalled several months ago and no prob's since. Already had the JB Weld so saved $318!
