Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Advice needed...

I'm thinking of buying a second hand MY09 Passat 3CC V6 4Motion for my dad, and I roughly know what to look out for, but I would still love to get some tips and advice before I decide to buy anything. Thanks

Great car, but thirsty on fuel.

Also not cheap to service, especially at the 60/120K mark.

It is a great car, but in my opinion it would be better of you can get one a couple of years newer with lower mileage... MY11 CC's go for a good price these days.

Just remember you're maintaining/insuring a $70k car even though you're only paying ~$15-20k for it.

MY13 is where the face changed and you got the 5th seat. This is one thing that stopped me from going any further with the original shape was the lack of a 5th seat (with 3 kids).

The update has the more corporate VW look. I prefer the styling of the original 3CC, though it is starting to get a bit dated now.

You can get the middle seat conversions these days, but I prefer it the way it is

I would of liked VW to release the original CC's with Circular LED tail lights rather then halogen.

The most obvious thing to look into is the dsg gearbox, I just recently bought a 2011 model and from what I was told that gearbox can be problematic if not maintained. Always make sure the service history is up to date including the gearbox service (every 60,000kms)and for piece of mind maybe get an racv check. I was fortunate to have a friend (vw mechanic) come with me. Happy hunting..

I have done nearly 150,000 in my 3.6 and other than the Plastic Trim cracking which was replaced free of charge by VW outside of warranty the car has been pefect. I am thinking about changing to a Touareg so we can tow a large caravan and do some regional touring.
