  • CC Extended Warranty, rip off?

    Hi guys,

I hope you are all enjoying the holidays. I have a 2010 Passat CC TDi with factory warranty expiring soon, so I thought to myself maybe I should extend it just in case, so I called my local VW dealership and the guy quoted me $3500 for 2 extra years with roadside assistance, is this for real? I honestly though the guy's joking!!! Have any of you guys extended the warranty on your CC? if yes, could you please tell me how much did you pay for it?
The reason I'm shocked by the figure is, I have just extended the factory warranty on my 2011 BMW 530i M Sport and I paid $1600, and I remember I extended the warranty on 2009 Holden Calais V V8 for $1200.
The $3500 sounds like a complete rip off to me.
Is there a better place to get the warranty from other than VW?

    Thanks in advance.

Your other cars possibly didn't have problematical DSG which has made insurers wary.

Stealers traditionally double the cost of extended warranties so try through a broker like ineedwarrantynow.com

    I got 2 years for a 2011 TDI Passat for $1750

Yeah still, I don't see how anyone would pay $3500 for extended warranty. Most reputable companies like Toyota would've extended the warranty on DSG without a blink. So is that where you got your warranty from? Are they trustworthy?

Its just like a well known retailer If you are mug enough to pay the ticket price they will take it and you are the mug.

I haggle for everything over $50, everything except food.

And yes I got two through them as you can only buy extended warranty "INSURANCE" ( that's what it is in reality) through a broker and a Stealer is acting as a broker also

I have a Polo one underwritten by Allianz and a Swann one on the Passat.

Insurance companies rate just above car and real estate salesmen don't they so draw your own conclusions.

They will do anything to deny a claim if they can.

The broker was Ok he was only working for his commission so wont affect your cover. Haggle with him too.

I do exactly the same I just find it a bit insulting when they throw stupid prices like that in my face.
I'm very interested in seeing what others have paid for their cc extended warranty.

The $3500 is a lot to pay for the extended warranty.
Another option that you have, when you don't want to pay for the extended warranty $3500 is to just buy a new car again.
...and negotiate a better price for the extended warranty when you're buying a new car. We got ours 3 years ago for $1200 when we were buying our Tiguan.

You know I was thinking about the same, maybe ditching this one and getting a new CC, but it is still a very good and reliable car, I really enjoy driving it, there is nothing wrong with it at all. If they told me you need to $1500 - $1700 I would've considered it... $1200 is a fair amount to pay compared to other manufacturers.

I was quoted $2200 for a two year extension last year and didn't opt for it. It's been a year and I've spent $700 on a new mirror, (motor on it blew), so still ahead but decided to keep the car for only one more year at best thinking about the DSG.

Just keep in mind, dsg gear boxes are expensive... More than the price quoted for warranty. But like anything else, shop around. Check with another dealer is my advice.

Thanks guys, I guess I have to weigh my options, it is a shame, such a lovely car... I might even sell it and not get another VW.
I was reading on this forum, and some guys are saying VW has extended the warranty on DSG to 5 years, is that correct at all?

They do and depending when was your car made, it's 150,000km or 5 years. I'm not sure if the other car manufacturers are extending the warranties when people complaining that components are failing like the VAG does? The PD injectors 7 years, the DSG 5 years. I think that VAG is treating their customers fairly even when it takes them longer to respond, comparing to other brands. Though I accept that some may have a different experience, but their expressions are only the one sided views they post and based only on their very limited understanding of the car complexity.

So mine is 2010 MY10, and was bought in 2011, you think it is covered?
By the way, thanks for the very helpful replies

                          You're welcome.
It should be, but confirm it with the VW to be sure. In any case if your DSG fails within a year or two with less than 150,000km, I expect that VW will cover the cost of the repair, judging from the latest media attention they were given. So, I wouldn't be extending the warranty paying $3500 just because of the DSG.
