  • Mud flaps, yikes !!

It's been a bit wet here this week and the shiny new Candy White CC didn't come with mud flaps, and the dirt down the side is ugly.

Just been quoted $500 by one dealer and $380 by another for 4 mud flaps fitted.

Both want $280 just to supply them, and I fit myself.

I didn't expect them to be made out of gold, but at that price it must be bloody good plastic.

Anyone know how hard they are to install ?
There are some on ebay for $30 (non genuine), worth the risk ?

    $30 vs $280 = Worth the risk.

Do you have an item number from ebay?

I own a 2007 Passat, brought some from a Hong Kong eBay seller for around $30Aussie, which included the postage. Unlike the ones on OEM, these are a hardish, moulded plastic, made to fit the side profile of the car. Took me about half an hour to fit, only had to drill one hole on each side for the front mud flags, did not even need to take the wheels off, and just turned them away from the area that I fitted them on. They do have a little flex in them as I have back up to gutters with them and not had a problem.

Yep that's the ones I had seen, given the reply's above I'm going to buy em and risk the $33.

The most I can loose is $33.

So they arrived on Monday, I couldn't pick them up from the post office until last night. Might try a "dry fit" tonight.

I hope to have a go at installing them this weekend, no instructions but it looks pretty simple.

Mine came with no instructions as well, must believe we know how to do everything down under. If you have problems just PM me. As I have mention to you before, just a small allen key to undo the screws, and you may need to drill a hole for the front ones, I also checked them first on my car before I fitted them.

Dry fit (front and rear) on the drivers side seems ok, the passanger side is against the garage wall so that can wait until the weekend.

The one conern I have is that a large part of the tyre will still be outside the edge of the new flap. That might be completely normal in a CC, and if the flap was as wide as the tyre it would probably look too wide.

I'll have a closer look on the weekend, when I get to dry fit both sides, before I start drilling any holes.

Mud Flaps are on, fit really well, took about 1 hour to do all four.

The front ones required me to drill two small holes into the black plastic cover inside the wheel arch, to fit one screw on each side. This extra screw is really just to locate the flap as it would not be doing much to hold it on. An existing factory screw was used to do the main securing of the flap. I was able to turn the wheels out of the way, therefore I did not have to remove the front wheels.

The rear wheels had to be removed, but I did not need to drill any holes. Two existing factory screws were used to fix it in place.

The flap is molded in the correct shape to fit the body and wheel arch.

Overall very happy result, and the money I saved.
