I have used City Wreckers Melbourne, I know they have several TDI models there, eBay also has listings on the part you could use to find places

      Here's the wash-up:

Vehicle is a 2009 VW Passat CC 2.0TDI with the CBBB engine.

      Original Old Alternator (removed):
      VW AG
      03G 903 023
      14V 180A
      BPN 40/08
      0 121 715 003
      Made in GB

      "New" Alternator (installed):
      VW AG
      03G 903 023 F
      14V 180A

      Made in GB

So, the Bosch part number is: 0 121 715 003.

Looks like the old and "new" are Bosch made in GB and 14V/180A.

I'll see later if I can take the old alternator apart and find out if it's the brushes, regulator, or rectifier – I have fixed one from another vehicle where I replaced the brushes; the bearing seems okay.

Bought a second-hand working (see above) alternator from ADM in Campbellfield – taken out of a 2010 VW R36 with 147,000km. The alternator was quite hard to find! A new (exchange?) alternator from a VW dealer requires a swap, and also requires a new pulley (unless you can successfully remove the old pulley): $1213 + GST + $252 + GST. Not sure regards likely labour charge at VW dealer? The new Valeo alternator has to come from Germany and takes 3 months! The VW dealer said you can't interchange the Bosch and the Valeo!

Volkspower in Burwood did the work – you can't do it from the top like I did with the Land Rover; up on the hoist and a lot of faffing about (rail had to be removed to access it from below)! Big shout-out to Kevin at Volkspower Burwood!

Tried a number of places, including Grant Walker Parts and Ashdown Ingram to no avail looking for a replacement alternator. Choice between VW dealer and ADM – went with the second-hand unit from ADM and Volkspower gave me the old unit back.

      All running well!

Now, has anyone ever taken one of these alternators apart??? The plastic back-cover looks to be held in with screws that just seem to be round in the middle???

Might research the starter motor next!

Got mine for $135 from ADM in Campbellfield - was hard to find! Drove there, inspected it, and picked it up myself.

Replaced brushes on a Land Rover (Denso) regulator - easier to remove as well - from the top (although had to remove a bit of stuff to get at it! Not sure with this one taken out from the Passat CC - looks in great nick! I can do the basics with a multimeter, so maybe I can repair it??? Problem is the plastic back cover I have to remove is held with four screws - they seem to be round in the middle - will try and get a photo posted!

Here's the old (original) alternator now removed. Looking to check and repair if possible - keep as a back-up.
