Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Rust Rear body door sill

Just noticed rust appearing on rear passenger door sill area ( car body side) , when you lift up the inner rubber lip water starts dripping out just like the you tube video link below.

    YouTube

What are my chances of claiming on the 12 year corrosion warranty .

If not whats the fix ?

I think you’ll find that aspect of the warranty covers perforation only - not surface rust
    Cheers

Yep but if he leaves it long enough it will eat right through

Op should clean out drain holes or VW will say lack of maintenance

The water buildup is coming from the inner door seal on the main body frame.

Checked the upper door frame seal overlap to the lower seal on the door frame , has about 3 mm overlap.

Is the door not closing tight enough against the frame ? is there any adjustment

Please look at the youtube link YouTube , clearly identifies the issue. BUT no solution

          2021 UPDATE

Rust appearred on both sides of rear passenger door sills.
Intially lodged a on line enquiry about this issue , no response for 4 weeks.
On line agent stated you can go to any VW dealer to lodge a claim / inspection.

2 weeks before the 10 year rust warranty expiry I went to Mascot VW dealer to lodge a claim.
Agent tried to fob me off saying you must return the car to the orginal place of purchase for a warranty claim , stated the online agent response and it's also mention in the warranty booklet that any VW dealer can honour the warranty.

Reluctantly they perform a paint thickness test and recorded all details.

3 weeks later , dealer informed me that VW Australia will honour the claim and begin repairs once I taken the car for acessement
at Scientific Body Repairs at Banksmeadow NSW.

4 weeks later repairs completed and the car was delivered to my home address on a tilt tray.
Still waiting for door rubbers to be replaced.
the rubber seals have been recorded on various web sites as a failure point / engineering design fault.

          Happy days.
