Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Arteon towing

Hi all and happy New Year
I'm exploring an option of towing a camper trailer/ caravan with Arteon and looking at the towbars available they are all rated around 100 kg towball weight and most caravans that I saw are anywhere between 110 and 130 kg ball weight , then there is Wesfalia towbar that is rated at 210 kg but from what I understand max towball weight for Arteon is 90kg.
I do not know much about towing capacities so any recommendation is greatly appreciated as I really don't want to get another towing vehicle and I know in Europe they are towing caravans with much smaller vehicles so Arteon should be capable of doing the same.I'm based in Sydney so if anyone can recommend a place that would be great..

The towball weight is set by the manufacturer and should NOT be exceeded.

Even if you put a towbar with a 300lb towball capacity the limit remains at 90lb as set by VW.
Euro vans are constructed differently to Aussie ones which are built much heavier and so Euros have lighter ball weight.

Whatever you do do NOT load it rear heavy to lighten ball weight or you could visit the nearest guard rail after leaving home.
Been there tried things Hauled a 3000kg van right around AUS.

I suggest for a Van you look at a Euro van Like Bailey, Adria, York, Jurgens or similar. NOT this one LOL

Thanks for the info, i decided that i will not do any towing with Arty, we'll look into replacing our Camry Hybrid with a Pajero and go from there

Older Pajeros are limited to 3000kg and Im not sure about the ball weight. I would look for a not too high K.s Landcruiser 100 TD or even a 200ser TD which have a 3500kg tow capacity and a 350kg ball limit. 250,000km on either of them is nothing really

Earlier models of the Pajero have a towing limit of 3000kg, and the ball weight is uncertain. I'd suggest seeking out a Landcruiser 100 Turbo Diesel with moderate kilometers or possibly a 200 series Turbo Diesel, both of which can weed seeds amazon discounts tow up to 3500kg and have a ball weight capacity of 350kg. For these vehicles, having 250,000km on the clock isn't particularly significant.

Did I read that right A Landrover You have to be joking Try getting any parts for that in mid Australia.

Whereas Toyotas are everywhere because the Mines use them and parts are available in fairly remote places because of this. If a 200 ser make sure is later than 2009 as the early V8s were problematic. A diesel is the way to go. We had a 300kg van and towed with a 2005 Landcruiser TD got about 15l per 100km.
