Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I went for the CTS BB550 - 304awkw with all supporting mods, bit more lag to consider so choose your turbo wisely. What have you decided on?

Adv to go with a EQT Vortex XL Turbo, I am told with the Galano Pro ECU/TCU tune it will be very responsive down low still & pull hard up top also going with the pro fuel flex setup so I can run 98 & or E85,you can mix them in the tank & the sensor adj the tune to the ethanol in the fuel

Nice mate, keep us posted on the results. Keen to hear how it all goes, I stuck to 98 octane but would be keen on flex down the track also

Waiting on parts to arrive, should have it all done early May, also I just ordered a haldex controller.

Sounds very interesting. I'm going to start with an ECU/DSG tune, probably with intakes/piping. will then see where that leads...

From what I can see, that turbo is a couple of grand for the part? What kind of budget would you suggest for something like that - does it require other upgrades too (sorry I'm a turbo n00b)?

My biggest issue with the Arteon's performance (vs my R36) is low end responsiveness, so looking at ways to improve that.

Got the Arteon booked into Harding Performance in a couple of weeks time for a stage 1 ECU/DSG tuning, with R600, turbo elbow, turbo muffler delete, silicone hosing and front + rear sway bars. Unfortunately, the lower control arms aren't compatible with the Arteon (open to recommendations/suppliers). Stage 1 tuning should give it ~270kW and ~470Nm.

Anyone know what kind of 0-100km to expect? The Arteon R is supposed to do 4.9s with 235kW.. so expecting 4-point-something.

Will talk to them about stage 2 hardware upgrade options when it goes in for the upgrades. Thinking exhaust (quiet/stealth) and cooling options with some more suspension. Brakes would be a smart idea, but at $6-13K+ ... yikes! Are retrofitring brakes from something like an RS3 an option?

I'd consider lower it, but getting out of the driveway is tight as it is (R36 is no problem, despite being an inch lower). Air suspension may be an interesting solution if legal and can integrate well with the OEM systems.

That may be a factor of longer wheelbase (2840mm vs 2708mm).
                    Nothing to see here...

Yeah, it also looks like it may be sitting a little further back on the wheels too (without measuring).

The parking sensors are a little over-zealous and it kept slamming the brakes on me backing out (despite having clearance) - I think it has to do with the speed I'm back out at, as it was better when I'd stop half way through. Anyhow, I figured out how to turn the auto-brake-slammer off, so all good at the current height..

                      • Quick question on scheduled servicing after a performance tune... I went APR stage 1 on my MY18 arty late last year, and am taking her in for her first service since, later this week (at VW). Is there anything that they can or are likely to do that would mess with the APR ECU flash? It's out of warranty so not concerned with that kind of stuff... I just don't want to end up driving out of service with a stock ECU again!

                        Comment

                        • Theoretically no, the service shouldn't require them to plug into software unless there is an error code (edit: well, maybe to turn off the service now reminder). Even then it would be rare to perform an ECU reset without a major issue and consulting you first.

If it is your expensive 4th service (about $832 at VW) you might consider taking it to an independent mechanic and potentially save up to a few hundred?

Lots of recommended VW mechanics around Sydney, where are you based?

                          • Thanks - I think I'll just mention the APR tune is on there when it goes in, and to check with me before messing with anything! I can clear the service reminder myself with OBD11 if needed.

On the service cost, I took it in for a major service just after buying, and while it was still under the short dealer warranty, so that we could [theoretically] have billed covered and unexpected items back to the dealer, so this one is actually a bit less than the 48mth one. I think it was booked at about $450 plus specified additional services, which I know is still up there, but happy for them to do it at that amount.

I'm in the Lower North Shore, and have previously used Northside Autoworks at Artarmon, as well, who were good.

TBH - I doubt they'd go to the bother of flashing your ECU .. maybe just mention that it's tuned (and you want it to stay that way).

How is your tune going, are you happy with it? Mine's booked in next week for a stage 1 (Racingline ECU+DSG), getting a little excited =D

                                Thanks, & agreed! That's what I'll do.

The tune is just as good as it was from the get go - no regrets at all. We love it! You might have seen I also just added some new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, and the combination of the tune with the better tyres has given it another mini boost! I'm thinking about APR's DSG tune as well, but no plans for stage 2, and the guys at the shop when I did the ECU flash said it wasn't really necessary for stage 1 low tq.
