Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yeah, thanks mate. I think someone nailed it in a previous post that VW over stepped the pricing and segment upon the initial release of the Arteon.

Truth be told, I was dismissive of the Arteon as a Passat in a fancy suit and nothing more ... until I drove it last week. The Passat 206TSI underpinnings are certainly there and instantly recognisable, but the Arteon makes for a more responsive, agile and dynamic driving experience. Not to mention being a real head turner!

Is it worth the killer depreciation on a 1.5 year old 206TSI Passat? Probably not, but you only live once!

2018 build (new). White, S&S + Sunroof. $65,490 in NSW.

I wouldn't have minded a demo, but oddly enough it was very hard to negotiate a price I was happy with considering some tidy figures on carsales.

Very happy with this price point, especially after considering an Audi A5. The Arteon just has every bit of tech crammed into it and certainly looks the part.

I quite liked Clarkson's write up of the styling:

Usually, when I come out of the office, I’m in a rush and I’m distracted by whatever small annoyance James May has created that day, so I don’t spend a lot of time walking round whatever car’s turned up, stroking my chin. I just drive off.

But with the Arteon, my shoes made a comedic squeaking noise as I came to an abrupt halt. It quite literally stops you in your tracks, not because of the wide grille that makes the car look lower and more ground-hugging than is the case, or the four pillarless doors, or the in-your-face mustard paint job. No. It’s the way all these things line up behind a big Beastie Boys VW badge. This, then, is not Crocs with tassels. It’s Crocs made from the softest Swedish leather, and fitted with diamonds and pearls.

Wish I'd stopped reading his write up at that point! It doesn't sound like he drove the 'R' version which is a pity, I wonder if he would have taken quite a different view.

          Posted in another thread...

          2017 Arteon, MY18
          Manganese Grey
          S&S and Sunroof
          5577km on the ODO

Was a VAG car, probably a media review vehicle judging by the rego plate sequence. In great new condition. $57,999.50 no more to pay including warranty extension to Sept 2021 (apparently factory with no obligation to service it at VW dealership but we will confirm this week) and the NSW RMS transfer of $2005.95 included.

Those two items were $2555.95 so I got the car itself for $55443.55. Fair deal for a car just on a year old with 5577km. Happy with the deal. Just need to get the front windows tinted as the dealer wanted $400 for what is a $150 job at most...
