  • Fuel comsumption

    Hi,

Recently bought a 2005 model Touareg 6cyl 3.2L and I noticed for city driving it seem to be able to do just under 600 kms per tank of petrol, averaging about 17 - 18 litre / 100 km.

Just wondering whether this is normal or could be something wrong with the car?

    Thanks, BC

mate even though i do not own a touareg i'd say that sounds about right for a petrol model, remember its a 2.3 tonne car ( i think?)

thats alot of heft to lug around for even a V6 so it'd be working pretty hard to get it moving hence the fuel consumption.

there isnt anything wrong i dont think mate

Sounds about right. To get a good feel for the 3.2's consumption, go over to club touareg and PM Singh. He posts fairly often in the Oz section of the forum and he's just sold his 3.2. He had it for about three years, so he should have a good idea.

Touareg V6 (petrol) tare weight (from VW Oz website) 2168kg, so not much more than your Caddy...
A V10 TDI on the other hand weighs in at 2532

Was chatting with a Victorian couple in a Cairns caravan park a couple of years ago, who were towing a massive boat, rather than a caravan, with a Disco V8.
I asked them how the fuel consumption was, and the wife said they were getting 30l/100, having towed all the way from Vic. I later asked the husband, when she wasn't around, how much was it really using. He sheepishly grinned and said "more than that-MUCH more, but I can't tell her exactly ".

But a Touareg 3.2 V6 getting 17-20 around town would be perfectly normal.

That's what my 3.5l V6 Jackaroo does, and it weighs 200kg less than the Touareg but has only a 4 speed auto, so that would in theory make the two vehicles line-ball in consumption, and in practice that's borne out.
