  • 2013 Touareg cat removed.. Pic

Hi all, last week I took my new 13 Touareg to HiTech Muffler in Sydney and gad the cat cut off and a Y pipe installed to meet up with the factory tips.

Overall, a bit deeper sound under acceleration from inside the cabin, sounds great on a drive by from the dude of the road. In my opinion it made acceleration better because the turbo spools up quicker. Not to mention I no longer have to lug that giant suitcase around under the car.

I will do a sound clip and drive by video for you all. But for now, some pics!

    Cheers Matt

Isn't that just the big rear suitcase muffler that's been taken out?

    Interested in the before/after clips

Yeah that's the one, then had these pieces fabricated to fit the tips.

Cool so you haven't played around with any of the emissions stuff and just the bits that cut out the noise.

Looks like a nice job and still with stock tips so nobody is really going to know unless they get under the car

So I gather that Y piece is a custom job rather than an off-the-shelf item?

          Wow that's pretty cool.

Any ballpark you can give on cost?

$600 cut, fabricated stainless steel and installed. I have the old huge cat should I need to install it for warranty reasons.

              That's great.

Can I clarify (sorry for all the questions) - you removed the cat (petrol model) or just the muffler (petrol/diesel)?

That's ok, I should have specified. It's just the muffler on the diesel 150TDI. The large suitcase from near the rear bumper. It still has a small cat up the front which has all the sensors in it.
I made a video on a terrible piece of road and you can mostly hear the loose gravel on the bitumen and road noise.
It has made it a little more throaty under acceleration, but I do notice the turbo spooling up quicker.
I posted this because I was looking for info on it before I did it, but no one had done it, or at least posted about it.

i will try another video on a smooth road. This was my first attempt...

Cool, thanks. A mod to think about for our 180kw V6 tdi.

Might wait until warranty over though!
