  • V10 for sale

    Hi everyone,

I am after a V10 Touareg - 2005 model onwards. Will be used for towing a heavy trailer (up to 3.5 tons). What are the pros and cons of a used V10, and importantly does anyone have one for sale??

What price should a V10 be second hand (ie real word price not what Red-book or Glasses guide says).

    Any advice is appreciated.

The diesel ones are tough enough to tow a 747 so 3.5 tons should be easy peasy.

I beleewe you could buy a brand new V6 Tdi for the price of secondhand V10 and it would still be towing your 3.5 ton in style.

this thread is starting to hot up.....

aside from the kw/nm differences, let me add a bit of fuel (diesel) to it:

          V10 smooth
          V6 not so smooth

          V10 pump deuse (oh dear)
          V6 common rail

          any others?

V10 hands down, even though you can get abrand new V6 Tdi for the same money? youre still getting the top of the line gear in the V10, whereas you dont get that level of speck in the V6....

plus its a V10, and thats just the ducks nuts.

              V10 - higher insuarance
V10 - could wear out transmission sooner than V6.
              V6 - better fuel economy
              A new V6 - 3 years warranty
V10 - remaining of the warranty (extended warranty is not the same as a new car warranty)
Buying a new car you know the exact history of it.
Secondhand - who knows what you buy? (previos owner could have a good reason to sell).

V10 has better side mirrors (IMO new ones are not as good)
                For towing 3.5 tones, the V10 might be better for fuel economy and stability;
                For Touareg, IMHO used is better as it should have had all the bugs ironed out by the previous owner;

But new V6 tdi will have better seats, better steering, and you get the chance to option up the full size spare (this alone will make or break my next purchase decision, I hate space saver spares).
                Cheers

im pretty sure that VW would build a transmission that would be able to handle whatever the V10 Tdi could through at it, even towing stuff. Im just putting it out there, i dont think that the V10's drivetrain is anywhere near stressed, or would VW under engineer something when someone is paying that much for a "peoples car" .

There have been some posts that trany fails in touregs. Do some search about it.
Higher performance of V10 would indicate me who ever had it before and sold it probably used it and perhaps it could be even chipped for even more parformance.
I'd rather by a brand new.

thats a fair point you have there, but i still would love the extra power. if you had the power wouldnt you use it? but a tranny failure should be still covered by warrenty should it not? in that case buy a second hand V10, except one that is still within warrenty as a safety buffer.

for towing 3.5 tonnes eaasily i think the V10 would be better off dont you think? sure the V6 could do it but the extra torque would do wonders for ease of towing, and less drivetrain stress.

How fast do you normally drive when you tow?
                        How often do you tow?
If you tow almost every day than V10 would be better choice.
However since the weight of both is within 200kg I think that 3.5 ton caravan would be very heavy even for 2.5 ton TReg if you get onto difficult situation and extra power wouldn't have to always help you.
                        How about chipped V6.
There is video on UTube: Standard R5 0-100km and chipped R5 0-100km.
                        Big difference when chipped.
But, than you could chip V10 I suppose.

quite frankly, i never tow, my polo doesnt have a tow bar and even if it did, i wouldnt be able to tow anything anyway, it struggles with more than one person in the car
of course there is a big difference when chipped, i guess it all down to personal choice and cost, etc....
im not bagging the V6 Tdi, i personally think its quite a nice car
i just like going fast, and if i had to have a tow car the V10 with a chip would do it for me, because when i wouldnt be towing i'd be driving it like i stole it and the V10 diesel is just something different, and the tuning potential just blows my mind

I'm sure that you wouldn't own V10 Treg just for driving it fast. It is not a racing car at least not for the city streets.

yes well its great heft gets in the way of road racing on a track.... a 'rapid cruiser' is more of what it would be i suspect, if only they put that engine in a passat wagon
