1stly love the Touareg
Everyone should be buying them instead of ML & X5.

Also did you test drive the last pre-facelift version ?
If yes did you notice any differences ?

Are the seats more supportive than last model ?
That was a major complaint in last model.
VW have stated they fixed this but I would love to hear the results from a customer

Do you plan to take her offroad with fellow Touareg owners ?

Hello Ben,
Yes I did do several test drives in the old model but that was Dec 06 so I can not really compare what differences in the drive were. I was more than happy with the performance the TDI V6 had over the Petrol V6 and I think my wallet will be also.

The seats do appear better as they have some more support in the sides. You still move around a bit if you are use to the GTI seats (the wife's drive) but not as bad a the new cow lined Passat.

I have not had a real chance to drive the vehcile as yet but in 3 weeks it is going to far north Queensland from Sydney so I will be able to tell all what the good and bad are.

I pose a question to you, why buy a 4WD (that can go off road) and not use it for that purpose? Yeah I know the car parks are full of them at the snow and up and down the beaches but that is not really four wheel driving now is it. Well if you have a X5 or M class maybe but I would like to give a Discovery or Range Rover a run. Once I have established how the vehicle operates I will more than love to show it off with other Touareg drivers.

FlipperDog, how was the drive from Sydney to FNQld?
Looks like you were leaving in 3 weeks from June, are you back?

Hello Dmm au,
yep I have been and returned. The trip was 3 weeks in July Sydney to Cairns return towing a camper trailer.
The vehicle travelled very well with around 10.5 to 10.9 ltrs per 100Km.
Problems were the vehicle locked itself in Townsville and the remote would not respond. A 1/2 hour wait and manual unlock fixed this and it was not seen again.
Wild life was the other problem, an eagle meet its maker in the front grille, no real damage to the vehilce as every thing "popped" back out once it was removed.
Some 4WDing in the mountains around Carins but nothing too extreme, vehicle with good ground clearance was only needed.
Climate control very happy with as it handled the very hot days we had, rain and on the return -10 oC in the New England ranges.
Lights (standard ones) no problems in fact happy I never went the upgrade now.

I read a review where some journalist had the same problem and had to spend a night in a motel because they couldn't get their camping gear out of the back!!

I assume you fuel economy figures are per 100km. Towing something as well, that's most impressive.

I assume you're saying you are glad you didn't spend the extra on Bi-Xenon headlights. I can't justify that either. Did you consider air suspension?
