Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Touareg CASA EGR thermostat

After noticing fluctuations in water and oil temps, from normal to cooler, decided to let my fingers do the walking.
It appears that the EGR thermostat on CASA engine ( not on earlier v6, eg. BKS ) could well be the culprit.
Hypothetically speaking, does anyone know if the EGR cooler is not in circuit, can the included thermostat
be deleted as well as the existing circulation pump. This would allow the thermostat housing of the earlier engine to be used.
It is all a matter of plumbing and where the water goes. Just wondering.

With the EGR not in circuit in a CASA/CATA, the cooler thermostat can be removed along with the circulation pump and also the engine thermostat housing can be replaced with that from a BKS (for example) engine. It is just a simple matter of plumbing. No more temperature fluctuations.
