V10 v V6 diesel fuel consumption

Thanks for all your help. I am finally finding out for myself what what these Touaregs are all about since we just bought an R50 demo(blue) 2 months ago and it's a fascinating learning curve.

They are a joy to drive, aren’t they? What I like about Treg is that it doesn’t feel like you’re driving a heavy car at all. The maneuverability and the brakes feel as good as on Golf5.
I know you didn’t buy it for fuel economy me neither but what is you fuel consumption in the city? Ours is between 10 and 11L/100km driving mostly in the morning and afternoon pick hours traffic, calculated from the fuel docket.

Hi Transporter, i have some posts on clubtouareg re fuel but briefly, so far in the 'suburban' traffic of the Sunshine Coast which is nothing like capital city traffic, short trips 12-13l/100k. Mix in some motorway stuff once the motor has warmed up and it averages 10.5 - 11l. On a trip to Brisbane just after evening peak the highway part got down to 9.7 and the return trip including suburban brisbane was 10.8l/100k by memory.
Fuel economy when towing was a big factor as I intend to tow about 3,5t (boat when I can afford one) and although the V6 diesel is quite pokie I felt with the load behind it would seriously start to drink fuel. I have just lost a 4.5l GU Patrol -petrol- and it's fuel economy around town was 19 - 23l and when I put a decent size trailer with load behind it it could drink up to 28l every 100k which isn't all that pleasant.
The R50 is a seriously wicked piece of gear and looking forward to getting some other wheels and tyres for a serious bit of off road work although with the limited wheel articulation from seriously stiff sway bars I think there will be the odd frustration even with all the electronic traction stuff.
Re: keeping my licence, my mates have taking bets on how long it;ll take before the flashing blue lights or those sneaky little candid cameras take an interest. i'm trying to be good but it's hard!!!!! ......SOOOO HARD

if you wanted to do offroading mate you should have got the run of the mill V10

R50 having fun off road last weekend.
The owner has made a few modifications but nothing to take the on road feel away. Mainly a set of off road 20" rubber/wheels and some underbody protection.

HI Flipper Dog, good lookin' bit of gear you have. The 20'' rubber works ok? I was thinking of going to 19" or 18" if they fit to give more sidewall height (and flex) over dodgey terrain and to give bag when deflated in soft sand. Which tyres are on your 20's and do you carry a spare? Do you still use the 21's on the tar?

I would recommend Club Touareg http://www.clubtouareg.com/forums/ for information on the Touareg, there is an Australian section which have very good posts. There are some members in your local area of the country (SE QLD) who are quite passionate in looking after the Touaregs and the dealer network.

Hey Golfman, wodyameen by sayng v10 better off road than R50? Other than grunt and extra features the only difference is wheel/tyre size and the 20's probably aren't much chop off road either. So why is the plain one the better choice???
Re: what's it like, like i said in the earlier post, WICKED. Still got lots of learning to do as far as where it's limits are but I'm sure it'll be fun finding out. Had a short blatt on the beach at Noosa's North Shore for about 5k just to see what it was like and it handled it OK. Same as anything on the hard stuff, wanders in the soft stuff and goes down a few cogs but not working real hard. Waste of time letting tyres down as there's no side wall to bag but they are a wide tyre to begin with so I guess that helps. Having always had manuals, going to a slush box is a bit of a culture shock. Starting to use the paddles to downshift early to get more engine braking coming into slow corners rather than jumping the brakes.
