Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • New speakers?

    Hi guys,
not happy with the sound in my 2015 155 R-line. would new speakers alone improve sound?
I currently have settings on full bass and no treble and it distorts on half volume.
Anyone know what size and watts needed to upgrade?
    Current - 2015 Tiguan 155 R-Line.
Previous - Jetta MkV 147 Turbo, Viezu Raceday mapped, Carbonio CAI, Quad Exhaust System, R8 Coil pack, Whiteline Swaybar, GTi Steering wheel with paddles, Alloy pedals, RNS510 & Leather.

Firstly I'd recommend turning the bass down if its distorting, by EQing past the halfway mark you're always going to cause distortion, it's like a overdriving a guitar amp.

I personally think (bearing in mind I'm a bit of an audiofile) that the stock headsets are rubbish and produce a very noisy sound. I started by adding an amp, bit ten D processor and new alpine component speakers with a sub. Even with the Bit Ten cleaning up the sound I wasnt happy with it. Replaced the head unit for a quality one with RCA outputs to the amp and now am satisfied.

Soumatrix offer speaker packs designed for the VW headunits that are a plug and play option that get favourable reviews, might be worth checking out. If you just replace the speakers and not add an amp you want to make sure they are ones that respond favourably to the very low power output from the headunit.
