  • Tiguan new generation vs old generation

I just can't help myself but has anybody thinks new gen tiguans are much uglier than the old version? Especial from rear and sides. Even from front those led DRL are not matching with the rest of the car and looks out of proportion. Why VW has done such a bad job designing new car, I mean appearance wise. Is is because diesel gate issue and they are cutting cost?

No it's because they want everyone to shell out $60k to buy the Highline/R-line because all the others look like a commercial vehicle.

It doesn't seem to have impacted sales too much. Though I don't know too many gen1 Tig owners that have upgraded.

I disagree, the new one looks much better and it's more classy than the old one. The new one has bigger boot and more interior space, I think that many will appreciate that.

Yes gen1 Tig does look a bit dated and interior is definitely a step up in the new car + adaptive cruise and a heap of other features. I still think that gen2 is a little pricey/doesn't offer as much bang for buck as the gen1 in its day. But sales figures would say that the pricing isn't putting off buyers.

Well I am not saying new car is bad in all respect! But looks wise it doesn't appeal me. It is more like any generic SUV these days (not premium ones) and like tigger said try to charge a premium price. And some of my mates who are not in to VW has notice the difference and agree with me.

I like the look of the new Tiguan, but I must say I have those sentiment about the post-facelift Gen 1 Tiguan, so I am probably a bit weird.

Yeah the pre face-lift is my favourite too, I like the more modern look of the post-facelift but just love the front grill of the original, has a tougher look in my opinion. There are some good examples of the new one, the ABT version comes to mind, but the base level ones remind me more of something you'd expect to see from Mazda or Hyundai.

I was looking through the specs for the 2017 Tiguan and couldn't find any mention of it meeting Euro6, in fact no mention of a euro standard at all.
Strangely it refers to SCR AND EGR !
Euro6 becomes the standard fm 1 July AFAIK so why is an EGR needed if a DEF (AdBlue) is used to control the greater NOx ?.
