Thanks for your comments Dingah, you do a great job of devils advocate.

For us plebs who can only afford to buy the baseline models, I guess we just have to accept that were doomed to motor away in silence while dreaming of Touregs and such like.
Yes I could use sports mode, if you dont mind the car doing 70kph in third gear (really useful....not), or perhaps I could change the gears myself. But hold on, didnt I buy an auto because I dont want to change the gears myself.....yip. (really useful...not)
I merely pointed out a shortcoming in this vehicle, and a cheap viable solution.Thank you Greg Roles. That is exactly what I was pointing out.
I dont have an issue with the power of this car, far from it in fact, I find it surprising grunty. That is of course when it finally gets around to doing it. Well now with throttle remapped, it does what I want and when I want it.
Dingah, yip I guess youre right. I could just remap my throttle with my boot, which is really economical too.
The fact is, this car and many others have this issue. Google "throttle controllers". If there werent any issues, presumably your search will be fruitless.

I'd back up the Op to say I am frustrated by how responsive it is. I always thought it was more to do with the fact that it seemed soooo keen to get into a higher gear to save fuel and needed time to change back down to meet the power/throttle requirements.

I have the 155R and, whilst it can get up and go somewhat, it does have a noticeable delay if its not in the right gear. I can fix that myself by just going into sports or manual mode but I think I will just go get APR stage 1 instead.

      Good Luck!

If you are having to run red lights I would say its time to look at your driving style. You sound like a courier style driver, Rip s**t and bust.

You havent growled about inadequate brakes so if you are driving sensibly you should have ample time to stop as the orange gives you that time.

I drove a Tiguan loaner and thought it was gutless and wouldnt have one in a fit. Was probably a 103 or similar but compared to the Passat was a dog.

To say its slow response times can put you in dangerous situations would only occur if you tried to make it do things its incapable of.

You should drive a slow car according to its characteristics and as you said cutting a semi off is not a wise thing to do in anything.

Lots of cars slower off the mark than a Tig and manage to get from A to B in one piece.

Lots of fast cars driven by people who dont want to win the race off the line as well

+1 for driving style adjustment. the only time i could be placing myself in a danger spot while turning when a 10 tonnes truck is approaching, i would have been just simply impatient to wait for a safe gap.

i see drivers daily who are going faster / tailgating / crossing too close, instead of practising safe & predictable driving. having driven on racetracks regularly also help me to improve my surrounding awareness, knowng a car's limits and increased my appreciation of safe driving on public roads

Guys... Why question other non-related factors or attack the driving style of the OP? All this BS about driving style is missing the point.

The time the power is applied compared to when I put my foot down is left wanting. There's enough people who have felt the same way for it to be a valid point. Also, there is a big difference between lagging in responsiveness and just being slow. I had a 1984 Gemini as my first car and it couldn't pull the skin off a custard but the millisecond I put my foot down, it reacted... even if it's 0-100km/h time was in the 22 seconds mark.

Greg - I am currently researching mods - I've heard the Stage1 APR completely changes this... I will keep you posted if and when I get it.

              Cheers Nigel

Yep any decent OBD tune will re-write the throttle map as previously described, and I'll just keep selling product to all those people "imagining" the throttle problem in their "lesser" cars. My "not fit for racing" 4x4 Yeti with just a Stage 3 DSG remap now surprises a lot of so called sports cars at the lights, and it's still the "pathetic" 103kw ECU map - for now....
