  • Excessive coolant usage - not engine oil hue hue

Anybody experiencing their coolant dropping in level too frequently?

My one dropped from Max to Min within 2000km.

Yes I had a leak on my 2011 125TSI which I got sorted under warranty. From memory I think it was seals on the water pump. But reality it could be anything causing your leak. Coolant is a closed system so you really should not be losing any - unless of course you have a leak somewhere. Take a look underneath for any tell-tale pink crystals.

There are products you can put into your coolant to fill small holes (stop leak), however they end up gumming up your whole system so I wouldn't recommend going down this path if you can avoid it. It's the lazy mechanics way of solving the problem.

The water pump seal in my 2009 147 also failed leading to coolant loss . I could actually see a pool of coolant under the engine .

The coolant level on these do fluctuate quite a bit.

Ideally, it'll need to be pressure-tested, and thoroughly inspected for a leak.
