  • Tiguan Body Shape Difference Between The Years

    Hi Tiguan legends,

I am just writing to find out the difference between the Tiguan models in terms of body shape, front and rear bars, rear wing and chassis.
Was just looking at getting some aftermarket lip and a carbon fibre rear wing for my Tiguan and apparently 2012-2014 is different to the 2015 model which is what i have the MY16 118tsi

Has anyone fitted any of these parts or know if there is a slight body shape change? I've been searching for ages now!

    PLEASE HELP

I wasn't aware of any body shape change, though there will definitely be differences with the R-line body kit and the standard update shape in terms of the bumpers, side moldings etc.

I believe the main chassis/mechanicals hasn't changed since 2008 as underneath it's the same vehicle with "update" for lights and bumpers in the MY12 facelift.

Just be careful with anything made in China as the Chinese Tiguan models are different from the rest of the world. There is a VW factory in China manufacturing a modified LWB version of the Tiguan (extended through the rear doors for greater rear legroom) which also has different front/rear bumpers fog lights etc. There are a number of aftermarket parts manufacturers that make items for these Chinese Tiguans and then also sell them through places like Hong Kong on ebay/ali-express. I have fallen foul of this a couple of times purchasing trims - you would have thought I'd have learned the lesson first time

Rear spoiler should be the same from whenever it was that they facelifted them a few years back.

Lip could be an issue, as there's offroad and non-offroad versions of the bumper, plus differences for certain countries.

yeah this is one of the items... from china

It honestly doesnt look much different in terms of width of the bumper.

Just dont know weather to risk it or not. They believe it'll fit 2012-2014 models but not my 2015 model

Yeah that's probably because in China there was an update to the bumper for 2015. You can see in the picture there's a different shaped fog light and trim piece with 3 raised plastic "stripes". Have a check of 2012-2015 cars here and you won't see this style - it's new and using some of the Mk7 GTI styling cues.

I probably wouldn't risk it. You can see that there's some location tabs on the lip. You can have a look under your car to see if you've got matching location holes.

Either way you'll need to be prepared to do some local fabrication to make it fit and/or to bin it if it doesn't work at all.

The problem is that these sellers know what works for Chinese built cars but most wouldn't have fitted this kit to a Tiguan for Rest of World (i.e. built in Wolfsburg, Germany).

          Proceed with caution

Yeah I dunno, I'd take a punt if it was cheap enough.

yeah true. I might end up taking the risk and probably make it fit haha. Just love the carbon fibre look. Atleast I can be the test dummy for everyone else haha

Mate, I didn't end up getting one. Change houses and jobs so my projects have been on hold for a while. Was also worried I would lose out on a few hundred bucks.

Success with my new purchase guys. On ebay there was a part from china they said would only fit 2012-14 Tiguan. It fit perfectly on my Tiguan. I have purchase a new wing for my tiguan and have covered it in carbon fibre to give it a darker look on my existing white rear lip.
Just finished the first layer of top resign and I will do one more layer to finish it off to give it a real smooth look.

Doesn't seem to be any different shape between the 2012 to current shape Tiguan at the wing end anyway.

Just installed the wing and also had a new cat back system installed at my local exhaust shop. Sounds much beastlier now!
