Rear camber adjustment?

I have asked this before but didn't get an answer.

Is there any adjustment on the rear of the Tiguan to correct camber causes by lowering? My rear wheels are pointing inwards more at the top after fitting Eibach lowering springs and to avoid excessive inner tyre wear over time I'd like to adjust it. On my Mk1 Audi TT it isn't possible without the installation of adjustable tie bars. I was just hoping this wasn't the case on the Tig.

There will be an eccentric bolt on the inner pivot of the lower control arm (item 19) for camber & an eccentric bolt on the inner pivot of the banana shaped rod (item 27) for toe.

Hi MGV that would be great if you could get me those figures. The garage who fitted the springs told me they did an alignment afterwards but as I didn't get a printout I'm questioning whether it was done at all.

Over here in the UK it's recommended to get a full 4 wheel alignment done using a Hunter machine. Would you advise that or just get the rears done?

I have standard width tyres for an R Line (255) although the wheels are bigger at 20 inch but still only 9 inches wide.

Hi again, Naresh. The 1st image is the results from the wheel alignment at the time of fitting the springs. The tech said that the springs will soften (& the car drop another 5 to 10 mm) after a couple of thousand k's/few months & may need another tweak, that's the results in the 2nd image.

The figures don't mean a thing to me. The fact that i got so many miles out of the tyres is a testament to to the alignment in my opinion... I reckon i could have taken them a bit further, just jumped on a new set as they were 33% off.

Mine has now been aligned professionally and already,visually I can see a huge improvement over before. I can't think the place who fitted my springs actually did the alignment as promised or either they did and it was within tolerances then but progressively got worse as they bedded in over time.

Here are my results which show that the fronts are still in negative camber but I was advised that the factory adjustment is already maxed out but the rears are better but and right on the limit for the adjustment bolt. There is a washer on the bolt and I could see there was no more movement left possible.

Rears are almost perfect so I'm not sure what you think should be different. About the only thing you might do slightly different is bring the LHS to -1.15 or -1.20 but there's only a beezdik in it so it's no big drama.

What figure are you chasing for the front? About -ve 0.9??? (you can't read the ranges in the photo) I'd be fairly happy with the LH front camber & even the RH isn't bad but I'd move the x-member to the Left so that there is more camber on the L than the R.

you might also get a fraction of adjustment out of it by utilising the slop in the top strut mount bolts & the ball joint bolts but there isn't much in it.


MGV: How on earth did they manage to maintain the camber on the front LHS and move it -1.0 on the RHS? Why have they allowed 1 degree of camber difference on the rear?

While I appreciate that your happy with the tyre wear that you're getting, that alignment has the potential to be so much better.

To be honest, i don't really know! I suppose i'm guilty as charged for getting the alignment done & not looking at the figures in the report, most likely what 96% of the population do as well. But your question made me ponder the results a bit & i may be completely wrong, but if i was to have a guess why one side showed differently to the other, i would have a stab at the variations being made to allow for irregularities in the symmetry of how everything is bolted together.

Makes me want to ask the alignment place why as well! 1 degree is quite a bit in my industry - we have instruments that measure angles to within 1/2 a second of arc!

Yes, you'd hope they just do it properly & you don't have to double check their work.

The figures on your chart just don't make sense to me but if you aren't getting adverse wear & it steers well then leave it alone
