Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Measurements Request

Quick one for anyone who could assist.

If someone could measure their 2012-2014 boot area for me please?

Width across, and depth / and height!

    Cheers!

What are you looking to fit in? May just be as easy to take the box, stroller, pram, etc to a dealer and see if it works.

I've modified my boot to fit a full size spare otherwise I'd do it

One thing you may want to consider is that the Tiguan has a 60/40 folding rear seat that also slides forward to enable extra space.
The standard configuration in the owners manual doesn't seem that much larger than the golf hatch however if you tilt the seats completely upright and slide them forward you can actually get a lot more storage volume in the boot.

I will try to take some measurements tonight for you.

P.S. i just dropped the inlaws to the airport and managed 5 people in the cabin + 3 suitcases and 3 carry on bags in the boot using only the sliding forward seat fnction.

Big enough for a wheelbarrow! Along with an assortment of other tools & buckets...

Think i would have to dismantle the Buell to get it in, though...

Just did a quick measure in the dark with a few things in the way, but about 820 deep (rear seat slid back, not forward), 1020 wide & 800ish from the floor to the underside of the hatch opening.

edit: 2010 model, but don't think current model would be any different.

            Okay, measurements done.
Boot width is 101cm, height from boot floor to lower roofline is 80cm.

With the rear seats tilted back as per normal and slid as far back as they go you have 80cm of length at floor level and 50cm at top of seat level.
If you tilt the seats forward you gain an extra 10/20cm depending on how much you want to tilt (20cm being vertical).

With the rear seats slid forward as far as they go, you have 100cm of length at the floor level and 85cm at top of seat level.
Again, if you tilt the seats forward you gain an extra 10/20cm.

Finally, if you lay the rear seats down you get a whopping 180cm of length to the back of a comfortable driving position for a 6ft driver.

I should note that the 60/40 rear seat does give you some flexibility for passengers as you can fold the 40 section flat and still have 4 passengers but get access to storage in the seating cabin area.

TDI tiguan in the drive. ParkAssist, comfort, fogs

Lol! I also have tested the limits of Tiguan cargo capacity and my major highlights are,

                      A queen size bed (disassembled)

Queen size mattress ( was very difficult)

5 seater recliner set 2:3 ( did 2 trips that day and to fit 3 seater one we had to push driver and front passenger seat foreword as possible just let me allow to get in and drive

I picked up a 2.8m single seat kayak.
Had it from the rear drivers corner to the front passengers windscreen with the front passenger seat folded down.
Was a bit of a struggle to change gears in 1 and 2 but i got it home and saved $120 on delivery
