Yes if you can't get a good deal on a MY14 with the options/colours you're after I'd wait. The dealer should be able to see the new stock in the next couple of weeks. We'll then know what the models/options are for MY15. As you say if you only buy cars every 10 years you may as well get one with the options you want rather than settle for something that the dealer has available on run-out.

me: whats with the plastic fantastic decoration on the bumpers
dealer: its actually high quality plastic
me: it looks like VW took their styling advice from the ford KA.

dealer: a few stutters and silence.

me: pointing to the golf: see. no tacky plastic. looks good.
        dealer: theres plastic underneath
me: yes but you cant see it
dealer: but if there was no plastic on the tiguan it would look like a giant marshmallow
me: really? i dont think that golf looks like a hot chocolate sized marshmallow. do you?
        dealer: well no.
me: then whats with the plastic!

I just read the VW Tiguan brouchere, I downloaded and printed.
MY14 Tiguans do not offer the 6 Speed Sports Automatic, even as an option. The 103 TDI Pacific offers DSG 7 speed only. So when did VW stop offering the 6 Speed Sports Automatic? Another question is how much weight does the Panaramic Sunroof add? And while I am asking, what about added weight of the leather interior with extras?
          Cheers Al

Dealer: There's one with park assist
Me: I can park a car. But I can see some people would be into that kind of thing.
Dealer: but it's fun! Great party trick when you're drunk!

All the non-manual Tigs up until 2010 had 6 speed autos. For MY11 (starting in Sept 2010) they introduced the 7 speed DSG across the range. Shortly after releasing the MY12 updated shape there was a global shortage of the 7 speed (DQ500) DSG so VWA brought out the "Pacific" model in 2012 with 6 speed auto, however this was only in the 132 TSI (diesel still had the DSG) and threw in a couple of other options including comfort pack (rain sensing wipers, climate control, etc). The shortage of DSG was resolved, however VW still kept the "Pacific" model name and went back to DSG and I believe kept the comfort pack etc in the car.

So if you want the auto diesel you have to go for a 2010 model. There are a few MY12 132TSI with 6 speed auto for sale.

I don't think you'll find weight figures for the accessories. All the vehicle weights will be for the stock models without options.

Yes the grey plastics trims are pretty average. They make a 2-tone car on anything but black or silver. And even on these colours they really don't match. It's a cheap option - saves a few $ on painting in the factory. That is why I've plasti-dipped mine black to match the car. I did look at getting all the trims removed and painted, however to do it properly you either need to fill in the dimpled look or buy new plastics with a flat finish so you get a matching finish on the plastics. That's why I opted for the $50 plasti-dip solution.

Ok I drove a 2009 TDI 6speed Sports Auto with leather interior seats. Drove around the suburbs then onto motorway and finished with a nice climb up Mt XXXXX. Forty minutes at the wheel gave me enough time to get a feel for the Tiguan. I can't understand why a seller would not clean the inside etc when presenting a car for sale. Wife refused to drive. She will have to have a go sometime.

My observations, driving position good, great forward vision great, rearward vision quite ok, better than I thought. Tiguan is not as long as I thought when your in the the drivers seat, looking back to the rear bumper. Clearly the torque of the TDi moved the Tiguan along well without too much effort and no worries with keeping a good flow in peak traffic conditions. The diesel clatter was observable and a bit strange for us. This example had 83000 Ks so that may have explain it. The Sports Auto was quite lazy in my opinion, but when asked it did move along ok. It aint no Polo Gti... but it is a pointless comparision. I had a little trouble with the Hillholder function which seems tohold back the car a touch when used versus not in use, that is doing the take off manually.

We went to Austral VW and were looking at the Tiguans there and a Golf TDi when a saleman trapped us. He priced the current Tiguan TDI 6 speed DSG at $38500. He then went on to say we should consider a TSi as we do less than 15000 KS per annun and save the additonal $3000 cost of a TDi. Fortunately he was too keen to have a ciggy, than bother with us.
Exterior rear vision mirrors, drivers side good, passenger side ok needed a wider mirror or increased curve to get a wider view.

Leather seats are comfy and hold quite well but not as well as our GTi. Suspension does well on all road conditions and we did a very short unsealed section as well, to test it out.

Now my questions for my preferred Tiguan is the TDi 6 speed Sports Automatic Pacific which ceased as at 2010...... I assume these are all 4 Motion?
What should I be looking for as for known issues/problems, how many kilometers are too many for a well serviced TDi? Same query applies to the 6 speed Sports Automatic? PDF renewal and possible cost? What about Diff lock?

I may have made a mistake at Austral VW........... looking over that Golf TDi!! I think the wife liked it!

Sounds like you've got some doozie salespeople at your local dealer....

Remember you can get some options fitted aftermarket. I've even had a previous car re-trimmed in leather... and the quality of the aftermarket leather is often superior to the factory fitted stuff.

                            There's a thread here discussing options: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...actory+options

Unfortunately there wasn't a follow-up to this thread which often happens so unfortunately we don't find out how the retrofit goes.

Here's one supplier who I know a friend used and was very happy with the result: Blackmans | Automotive Leather Interiors

Yes these would all be 4-motion. The only Tiguans that aren't are the new 118TSI which are FWD only.

There was one TDI on here that had done 180,000 with only some minor (expected) maintenance items in that time. If the car is looked after and serviced regularly then you should be pretty right. Though I'd recommend getting any second-hand vehicle that is out of warranty thoroughly checked over before purchasing.

Speak to your local service centre about servicing costs and DPF replacement. I know the DPF aren't a cheap item.

Hmmm Mmaybe tell here that the Golf R is AWD and you really ought to look at one of those also. You can pick up a low km Golf R for under $40k....

Though my wife likes the higher ride height of the Tig and ease of getting in/out compared to a sedan/hatch.
