hmmn food for thought. im such a scardey cat that id probably wait till warranty was over before chipping it.
I am enjoying your build thread tigger73. and i do giggle every time i read flappy paddles. i dont know why. i think theyre just paddles and the flappy bit just makes me laugh. particularly as i imagine you are a grown man saying it and it sounds like something a kid (or I) would say!

Yes the "flappy" part is pretty funny really but that's what they're called - not sure where the name came from

Thanks for the info Tigger73.
So lots of MK6 Golf suitable for tuning a Tiguan... great stuff.
I am considering a good used Tiguan TDI 4 Motion with Automatic 6 speed. I have my own reasoning for this choice. I now have aging parents, one refuses to get into the Polo.
Perhaps the Diesel is more economical and the auto more reliable than a DSG? auto maybe easier in our suburban gridlock and I did read that the auto is better suited off the sealed tarmac. I am certain it will ride better than my N9 Polo Gti. The interiors look quite accommodating.
I suppose there are local vendor ECU upgrades for the TDI 'just like a Golf'? .... Gav are you reading this?
Wheel and tyre combinations are they very limited by 'SUV' ADR laws?
Brakes seem a weak point, is there simple upgrades like slotted rotors that solve some issues?

Thanks again for the detailed info Tigger73. Your full of knowledge on Tiguans. And thanks for being patient. I know some would have said Google it!
So I am on the hunt for a lower kilometer Tiguan TDi Sports Auto 4 Motion owner upgrading to the new MY15 model and privately selling their good used Tiguans TDi Sports Auto 4 Motion.

I an enjoying your build tread tigger73. Kept me busy all week! Up to page 60 and still going. Jeezuz!
I don't even own the car yet but I know how to (and want to) change the steering wheel, decided a dippy mirror is a must, that I need interior lights, different headlights, a bar doover in the back to make it stiffer in 22mm not 24 and I want to paint the brakes. Except that I'm scared I'll blow my face off with the airbag in a girly moment.
I was speaking to someone at work and they mentioned there's an Apple TV version of a doover for car head units which sounds interesting!

Plus most of the satisfaction is in the journey itself. Once you get to the "end" it's a bit of an anti-climax really.

I test drove the 132 today. not impressed in D mode although it can accelerate ok. I wanted to take it through bobbin head (ie curvy road) but the ticket guy was there so i decided against it.
it was fun in sport mode. the only problem is that now i want to know what the 155 is like.
and it will be really hard to get the 155 in the colour and additions i want.
was there speculation of a facelift coming out? the vw guy said there was no change coming in the foreseeable future. not till the end of next year

Looking at buying a Tig
There is a MY15 update which is due in the next month or 2. These will be available for ordering at the end of this month. The shape will be the same - perhaps some minor cosmetic changes (LED tails, Sat nav as standard, 130TDI motor, R-line body kit) are all possibilities but by no means guaranteed. Should know more in 2 weeks as to what the model/options that are going to be available.
You can probably get some reasonable deals now on "run-out" models. If you can leave it a couple of weeks hopefully there will be a bit more info on the MY 15 update and you can decide whether to wait.
I'm in a similar boat looking to see what's in the update as to whether it's worth upgrading.
The new 3rd gen model won't be out for 12-18 months at least. Usually we will get it 6 months after being launched overseas. No word about this at all as yet so it'll be a while .

Well done schmenz.
Wife and I only dropped into Highway VW and looked over the last 3 Tiguans they have. A base silver TSi with manual 6 speed. A Black TSi DGS with leather and top of range and a TDi DSG in a Gold Met color. After twenty minutes going over each car the salesman came over to assist us. He priced them from $38770 with no new Tiguans due for 6 months.. No test drive.
So my thoughts are that we will take time to adjust to the larger size Tiguan after driving the N9 Polo GTi for 4 years.
Vision is good forward but I find the rear vision poorer than expected. Rear camera required as standard. But that is from a stationary situation. Entry front and rear is good. Doors open wide for good access.
Seats are all firm and comfortable, we are impressed with the sliding rear seats which even in the extreme forward position still gave plenty of knee room for us. That is with the front seats where we would have them. We liked the leather.
I think the boot space will offer us all we need, seats down and up. The spacesaver looks enormace.
Three 12 volt sockets thumbs up. Note, no lever handle for the brake, electric button/hill hold is fine. Gas pedal hinges at the heel. Different.
Instruments display typical VW.

yup he said nothing new due for 5 months. at least in what i want.
i want the 155 black with sunroof and leather. there are none at VW dealers. i can get black sunroof and suede (but i think that will get destroyed so fast!)
i could get it in the gray or white but i didnt like them. i was considering white. then they reversed a black one in someone had bought and i knew it had to be black. if im spending that much money i want it to be what i want

Just be aware that the salesperson will tell you whatever story to get you to buy today from him. The only stock that the sales guys can see is current MY14 cars which are almost all at dealers now. The MY15 stock is not showing on their system as it has been disabled by VW until the MY14 stock is sold.
VW definitely has cars on the way. The sales guys don't have access to them just yet to make them sell the current stock. The MY15 cars that will be available in the first shipment will either be base model cars with no options or ones that are "fully loaded". If you want specific options, you'll have to order one and wait.
