  • Accelaration Lag

I've got a serious lag issue on my Tiguan Pacific

Occasionally and unpredictably when accelerating from standing still pressing down on the accelerator has no effect.
I have to release the pedal then press it down again, this is a serious issue especially for example trying to merge with traffic from parking. It seems to be happening more frequently and even happened the other day when I was merging into a roundabout and in this instance the vehicle was already moving.

Its 18 months old and happened from new but I was hoping it would fix itself and as I have to travel a fair way to the service centre and get an hour train ride home then back I havn't bothered but it seems to be getting worse

I have now booked it into the dealer for a weeks time but due to the unpredictability of it happening I wonder whether they will even experience it.

This is not turbo lag but just average acceleration from stop in D mode, I have started to bang the gear shift over to first when it happens but not sure that it really helps as the lag has already occured

    Any thought welcome...

      Are you left foot braking?

If you are and you have some throttle position, then touching the brake will see the Brake Throttle Override kick in and effectively disable the accelerator for between 1 and 2 seconds.

Yes I do left foot brake, I'll check that.

Am I missing out on something here or is left foot braking still a no no?

Left foot braking is not so much of a problem. What is the issue is hitting both accelerator and brake at the same time.

The cars safety system will kick in and takes the brake input...

After about a week of being extra careful how I use the left foot braking I have not had the lag issue except on a couple of occasions where it almost happened but I noticed i had both foot on both pedals.
However if I try to get it to happen by soft foot on the brake and accelerate I can't get it to happen ... have tried various ways to get it to happen but cant do it , not that I want it to happen of course!
Thanks to Wai saved me from a wasted trip to the service centre
As an aside I never understand why the brake pedal on all cars is higher than the accelerator, to lift the foot up and over to the brake wastes milliseconds (which is why I use left foot its quicker)

I would be concerned about people driving this way for years & it being fine in an auto, then one day having to drive a manual, getting their feet in a knot & driving into something in a bad way...

Don't see an issue related to the above driving a manual is a 2 foot operation anyway and always takes a little time to re-adjust from Manual to Auto and visa versa

This is strictly prohibited in some countries, and it is totally different from the way driving manual.

Are you seriously saying it is illegal to use two feet on the foot drive controls?
Please show me any legislation to confirm.
I would suggest it is discouraged by auto manufactures on Auto because their in car computer system can't cope with with a more efficient driver method.
I would add that I have driven manual cars for over 40 years.

Photoforum, you said yourself it "always takes a little time to re-adjust from Manual to Auto and visa versa" & that is from someone with over 40 years driving experience. I think if people learn or are taught this method from their L's (i actually wonder if any instructors would teach this technique?), they would easily get themselves in trouble in a manual when an instantaneous response was required...

I'll take that comment as facetious, but just in case it wasn't, i meant left foot braking, not 2 foot driving...
