Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Seat Upgrade

    G'day.

After three years I've finally decided to do something to redress the fact that I should have ticked the leather sports seat option! Not for the leather so much but for the comfort and security of the more heavily bolstered seat when 'pressing on'....

My question to y'all is; has anybody successfully changed, upgraded or altered in some way the (mainly drivers) seat? Not looking for a Sparco or Recaro race replica as it is still a daily driver and needs to be practical and a reasonably economical change.

    Any takers?

    Cheers

You may be able to find a set of leather seats at a wreckers.

I know there was one kicking around a year or two back but they wanted too much for it (especially for second hand and possibly needing new airbags).

Retrimming the existing seats in leather may not have the desired effect as you may find it still doesn't provide the support that you're looking for. I retrimmed cloth seats with leather in a previous car but you'd want to hang onto it for a while to make it worthwhile.

I'm not sure if the seats out of the Golf/Jetta will fit the Tig.

...and yes you should have ticked the box

    Though there's always next time.

No you shouldn't have ticked the box.
The leather "sports" seats in the Tiguan were more like a couch than the heavily bolstered models in the Golf R/GTI PP range etc.

I used the tiguan with leather on the VW driver training day and had a go at the slalom and kept sliding off into the door and the centre console as the leather was the slippery old couch kind rather than the suede style of the newer cars.

You could always ask Guy Harding if he will let you have a test drive of his development tiguan running aftermarket recaros.
