Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • what is DSG tuning?

Maybe its a dumb question from a newbie. What is DSG tuning? Who does it in Adelaide? What improvements does it make? Cost?
    Thanks Knoffie

You should google that mate. All the major tuners do DSG tuning.

Or search this forum - a few now that have had it done with good writeups. Basically like ECU (Engine Control Unit) tune but for transmission (DSG - Direct Shift Gearbox) controller for improved shifting

Probably the better question is do I need it?

The answer is yes if you dislike the stock shifting pattern of your DSG. If it doesn't bother you then I wouldn't worry about it.

There is only one place in Adelaide that I'm aware of that can reprogram the DSG and that is German Auto. Though they don't (or didn't) have the tool permanently so you have to book in and wait until they get enough to do in a batch.

A few other tuners have tools to do some of the other DSG units (DQ250 in GTI and R being most common) but the DSG tune that the APR dealers supply (not an APR product) is the only one I'm aware of that will do DQ500 in the Tig.

I believe that may be changing very shortly as Viezu may have a product but 12 months ago this was certainly the case.
