Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Help!!! Urgent concern re purchase of 2013 Tiguan

I hope those who know more about this can help me. I have entered into a contract to buy a 2013 (my13.5) 103 TDI DSG Tiguan 39,990klms . But after reading all the horror stories about the 7 speed DSG I am scared to go ahead. If I dont go ahead I will almost certainly lose my $1000 deposit, and I have to make a commitment by tomorrow morning (Monday) Am I being stupid or are my concerns warranted? Any help urgently will be deeply appreciated. We do have a Golf 2008 TDI DSG in which we have travelled 35,000 klms over the past 2 years with no issues .( now has 115,000 klms on the clock) . I am just not sure what to do. My wife says I am worrying over nothing and its just a case of pre buyer's remorse setting in.

Help!!! Urgent concern re purchase of 2013 Tiguan

Don't worry. The DSG in the Tiguan is a completely different model to that in the lower power Golfs with all the problems. The Tig has a DQ500 suitable for high power/torque applications whereas the DSGs that are involved in the recalls are the DQ200.

Both are 7 speed but the Tig nominal rating is 500Nm whereas the Golf is 200Nm (hence the naming). Big difference. There have been very few issues with the DSG in the Tiguan.

Not to confuse things but there is also a 6 speed DQ250 which VW uses in the diesel and high power Golfs (GTI and R). So this is the box you'd have in your diesel Golf. A lot fewer issues with these too.

      You'll be ok.

The 7-speed in the Tiguan is a different beast to the one in the small cars.

On my second Tiguan and it the same as what you intend buying. I also had the same concerns and got a letter from the dealer where VW Australia states that all 2012 Tiguans plus some other models now have a 5 year warranty on their transmissions irrespective if they are manual auto or DSG so as others have said including the better or the wiser half as mine keeps telling me don't worry be happy and enjoy the new ride!

Than you Guys for encouraging me re the purchase of the MY 13.5 Tiguan.
We bought it from Penrith Subaru. It is 11.5 months old and in as close to new condition as you could hope for.
They were terrific to deal with and paid for the airfares for my wife and me to fly up there as well as a full tank of diesel.
We traveled down the coast road to Victoria as far as Lakes Entrance. The up to the middle of Victoria for a family gathering , then down to Ballarat and then home to Adelaide. All up around 2000klms through rain and mud and slippery roads ..sunny days and then high winds. The Tiguan ran perfectly and we are so happy with it. The 7 speed DSG is much smoother than ort 2009 Golf TD,I which was a surprise. No hesitation on take off either. . It still has 2 years VW warranty on it. I will post a pic asap.
Thank Tigger73 It took your advise and encouragement of others here to get me over the line..I was wobbling all over the place.
You probably dont realise how important that was to me. But it was. I needed help ..and I got it. I am very grateful
