Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • My Favourite Tig Mods

I was thinking the other day what were my most favourite mods that I've done to my Tig. If I had a clean sheet what would I do if I was going to do it again and/or only had a limited budget.

So here's my top 3 Tig mods:
    1. DSG tune - for how driveable it makes the car day to day
    2. VAR Cat Back Exhaust + resonator - sound is awesome/addictive though definitely needs the resonator
    3. ECU tune - the extra power is definitely worth it

Of course I like a lot of my other mods too, but if I was only going to do three things to my car this would be it... but then you'd also want the springs, 19" wheels, sway bars, ALK, 3" Down Pipe, CAI, S3 intercooler, head unit upgrade, RVC and AutoPolar/mirror dipping

Some of the cheaper cosmetic upgrades are also pretty good value:
    • chrome window buttons - just adds that bit extra class
    • door warning lights - why VWA deleted these I don't know
    • interior LED upgrade - way better than standard bulbs
    • can of plasti-dip to colour code the exterior plastics (for a deep black car at least)

And the other thing I've got done recently which was definitely worth it was a professional polish/paint correction of the exterior to get rid of all those swirls and light scratches and bring the paint back to showroom finish.

Nice priority list! I never thought DSG tune is that much important. So based on this list I have to add two more things to make it better. How about having a separate thread to post our top three favourite Tig mods!!

My top 3 mods then ,

      1) Tig sound system upgrade
      2) Tune + K04
      3) Car Tablet install

Honestly my R badging comes very close being 3rd faviorite mod because most VW drivers come close to my car to check what kind of new animal is this

OK so we now have our own thread

I rate the DSG tune higher than all the other mods as it fixes the major complaints that I have with the stock car/transmission.

The exhaust is just because it puts a smile on your face whenever your stick your boot in.

And ECU tune because you can never have enough power.

Other than these it's all about making the car handle a bit better, adding some nice creature comforts and personalising the aesthetics.

Well looks by your list I might still have some work to do too

Though my wife listens to more of the "doof doof" than I do so she'd probably be the one most to benefit from any audio upgrade.

Haha! Then you can ask her to fund for the project! and you can get her approval in no time

My number 1 mod would be:
              APR Tune, without it, slow!
              MY10 Tiguan 125TSI /APR Stage 2

Great idea for a thread, guys!

But here's a curve-ball: rather than your top 3 mods... how about which combination of mods you'd choose with a fixed budget... say $2k or $3k? You could get an awful lot of cosmetic and convenience mods for $3k, but not so many tunes, exhausts, Haldex controllers, ...

This is a great thread. My Tig doesn't get delivered for another 2-3 weeks but I am already thinking about the mods!

The dealer/factory is fitting the Comfort Pack and re-trimming the interior in leather.

I am already in the process of buying a reversing camera and RNS-510 to fit and door warning lights, chrome switches and LED interior lights will definitely be on the list.
                  MY08 Mk5 GT Sport - sold
                  MY14 Tiguan 118TSI - sold (Mazda3 SP25GT in its place)
MY16 Golf 7R: sold (Caterham Super 7 and Hyundai i30N in its place)

Hehe .. every once in a while we get some crazy ideas too

                    For 2k I would get
                    1) APR stage 1 tune when they have 15% sale
                    2) Upgrade the sound system with two front speakers/ AMP and Dynamat. And may be add a Sub too

                    For 3k,
All above plus down pipe & APR stage 2

Now that is an added challenge.

For $2k I'd hate to do it but I'd probably drop the exhaust and I'd shop around to get an ECU and DSG tune for $2k (probably wouldn't stretch to APR on this tight a budget though).

For $3k I'd add in the cat back exhaust. I know it doesn't add any performance gain and it's only noise but if you have a DSG then you need to hear the gear changes

If I had $100 left I'd get a set of door warning lights and some chrome window switches from bold-sport.
