Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Well the Tiguan bonnet is extremely heavy so it would be a good starting point.
Not sure why they decided to put the hood there other than maybe to push air back to cool down the turbo?

However alibaba usually require you to buy in bulk and shipping on this is going to be a killer.
Also carbon fibre panels are a bit sketchy with ADR compliance.

You would likely do better ditching the spare tyre and all the impact reduction bars (giant metal beam behind the bumpers etc)

I'm not sure it's going to have a massive effect on performance with weight saving. Looks wise I prefer to be a it more discrete so if I was to change the bonnet it would be without a scoop.

I'm usually wary of buying aftermarket parts from China. Most Carbon parts are really just fibreglass with a few layers of CF for looks.

When I was heavily modifying my old Evos, I'd often get parts from Japan. They cost more but there was real R&D employed in the design and the build quality was top notch. I used to run a full Test and Service bodykit and CF bonnet with a CWest wing. The downforce through corners in Sepang and high speed stability was very noticeable.

Ps with lightweight CF bonnets, I found I needed bonnet pins to hold down the bonnet when traveling at high speeds.

The bonnet would need to be ADR compliant (and generally tested) to qualify - which would make 99.99% illegal. This will generally relate to pedestrian safety. Could cause an insurance risk as well, even if you're not worried about a possible defect.

Agreed on the bonnet scoop as well - unless you want a WRX/Forester Turbo look.

Bit of a link here to the SA regs, that's the easy bit.. it's the ADRs that are a fail:

          sa.gov.au - Aftermarket components

This product is listed there as the minimum quantity of 1. So I think buying one of these possible. I sent a request to manufacture asking for price and shipping. Considering it is from china shipping can not be that much expensive I suppose. But will see how they respond to my email.

I like the hood scoop design Ok may be I like WRX look haha! If I fit this in to the car it will be more like a big mini cooper S.

According to VicRoads CF hoods are not approved.. So this looks like a no go

Not the best look for a Tig though , seller quoted me 433USD for the hood.

I'd like a front lip and a carbon bonnet, but not either of those options.
