A full size spare (or damaged tyre from the car) can fit in the space-saver area of a Mk7 Golf. All you need to do is make sure you have the floor in the raised position of the 2 options but also you need to remove the plastic rear panel which is small enough to store somewhere in the car until a new tyre is sourced. it's not a long term solution to running permanently with a full size spare unless you are willing to cut away a bit of the plastc lip that protrudes out into the spare wheel well. I'm not willing to do that though.

On the face of it, purchasing a matching wheel and tyre assembly (placed upright on top of the boot floor to one side), a tyre cover, and a few straps (elastic or otherwise) to hold it secure, would be a less expensive solution overall - as opposed to selling your current vehicle and purchasing another.
On first glance, it would appear the space taken up by the matching wheel and tyre assembly is outweighed by the benefit of the boot floor remaining in the lowered position.

With the upcoming long weekend road trip from Melbourne-Sydney I'm now thinking of putting the roof pod on and taking the 17"spare. Something to think about....2012 Tiguan 155tsi 7spd DSG - Sat Nav -Reversing camera

I keep a gel based puncture repair kit in my tiguan along with the space saver rubber.
But if i ever need to drive long distance, i will also bring a spare full sized wheel / tyre.
That should cover me from 3 tyres puncture eh?

If anyone needs any full size spares, we have wrecked several late model Tiguans, so have good stocks of 16" & 17" full size wheel / tyre combinations.
If anyone needs any, drop me a line!

I wish I got a pic of it, but I was overtaken by a guy in a black Tig the other day in an 80 zone. As he came up behind me I looked at his car and thought it looked odd, when he passed I saw why..... He had not one but 3 space savers on and was doing roughly 90km when he passed me bopping away to some tunes. At the next set of lights I came up next to him and saw the stickers on the wheel said MAX 50km/hr.
