Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Issue with instrument cluster backlit

    Hi all,

I am having an intermittent issue with the instrument cluster backlit. Regardless of headlight switch location (on or auto), the RPM and Speed parts of the instrument cluster would disappear for no reason, while needles and MFD appear normal, see pictures below.

So before I take the car in for warranty repair, is there anything I can check and repair myself? Since beside the hassle of dealing with clueless stealer, I am quite concerned the car would return as a rattle/squeaky box after the dash removal.

    Cheers

    Check this post http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...ml#post1018591
if it's relevant to your car. Either the way you need to book it in.

When the fault is happening, remove the fuse and re-insert again, preferably with the ignition OFF

Have you read the owners manual?

There is a section about the dash lights auto adjusting, similar to auto headlights.

I do not believe it is auto adjusting related, as it has never happen in the first two years.

The MY12 engine compartment fuse holder looks different to the one shown in the thread, and sadly the thick owner manual does not identify purpose of each fuse.....

By the way the fault is random regardless of exterior light condition, it can last anytime between 5 seconds and 4 hours (during which I tried engine and light off/on without success).

Then the recall doesn't apply to your Tig.

Cluster replaced, fortunately the dashboard does not have to come out.

FYI the car immobiliser is built into the cluster, so reprogramming is required for all keys. So another dealship trip for me....
