Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Launch Control Fuel Consumption

I don't really like to use launch control, as I can feel the pain and stress in the transmission but couldn't help it in the wet the other day against a HSV off the lights, so I noticed something weird.

On the MFD with the instant fuel consumption showing, at part throttle all good, at full throttle (not taken off yet) the indicator goes to 0.0l/100km. I am not pointing to an issue or anything, rather curious as to why. Maybe the computer cannot calculate fuel consumption with the fuel cut off for the full throttle rev hold at 3000rpm.

Anyone got a more technical input?

Maybe because you aren't moving so it would be infinite L / 100km.

I wouldn't expect the real time fuel economy guage to be very accurate.

I don't think its very accurate either, it just made me a bit curious to know why. Normal WOT (taking off) the display maxes out at 49.9l/100km, only on the launch control and only at WOT it reverts to 0.0l/100km. With launch control and part throttle (while stationary) it still registers a reading.

Could be a glitch in the system. When Tig is not moving(idling) MFD fuel consumption is switched to L/h mode which is understandable. Only time I see 0.0L/100km is when I let go the accelerator and engine breaking happening. Maximum I have seen on MFD instant is 49.9L/100km , I think it is the max it can show

By the way when you do launch control don't switch MFD to fuel monitoring mode, switch it to digital speedometer mode !! hehe

It clearly must be that it's more fuel efficient to take off using launch control.

The more technical explanation is that launch control just lifts the idle speed to 3,000RPM so effectively it's still "idling" = hence 0.0 l/100km.

Should be reading L/hr if stationary

                Brad

You are correct, it reads 0.0L/hr when stationary and foot flat to the floor. RPM's holding at 3200 (launch control)

Any other throttle position will register a l/hr value.

So now to the important bit, who won in the wet?

He did a lot better than I thought. I was expecting him to be feathering the throttle (R8,317)but I could only have my nose in front in 1st and 2nd and 3rd. As soon as 4th went in he went past and then I backed off. He was either pretty good or Holdens have now some descent traction control.
