Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Tiguan servicing: dealer vs non-dealer

    Hi Everyone,

My tiguan is due for its first year/15K service in a month. As it is my first vw and also I'll get it tuned some time soon. I need some advise whether to get it serviced at a vw dealer or non-dealer. Whats your preference, pros & cons?

    cheers!

Personal preference whether you go dealer or independent. If you tune it and get serviced by VW it will get flagged as modified in VW system.

I would get the service done with an independent. Also get them to do an end of warranty check to pick up any warranty items. Get these fixed up before you get a tune.

Thanks mate. I have more than 2 years warranty left, so I'll get the end of warranty check before it ends.
Now I'll get it serviced first at VW dealer and then get it tuned and afterwards only service it at an independent.

Only reason why I suggested to get it done by an independent is that they may pick up on warranty items before you get it tuned. If you take it to the dealer and the apprentice changes the oil they may not pick up on any issues. It would only be if you complained about anything.

Just it's a lot simpler if you get any warranty items sorted before you get your tune especially in the unlikely event that there are any issues picked up with the engine/drive train.

The tune can void the warranty on these items.
