I'm having problems sometimes with the air con. Some times it's slow to get to temperature. Also it feels like it's also not as cold as i remember. When I say slow I mean like 10 minutes. I've only recently noticed this because it's now getting warmer. I've checked the pipes and coolant and there doesn't seem to be any leaks. The pipe is not touching the belt at all which is a common problem. Another problem might be some kind of valve sensor with the compressor? There are a few websites talking about it but nothing concrete, anyone got any ideas?

Get the gas level checked..if its low it will make the circuit poor...might need a top up...if the gas is ok then 90% compressor will be on its way out mate...VDUB ...VOLKSWAGEN TECHNICIAN - 16 YEARS OF PAIN..VCDS CODING- FAULT DIAGNOSIS - PRE PURCHASE INSPECTIONS- REPAIRS9W2 BT KITS -$300 - 9W7 BT KITS - $450 - CANBUS UPGRADE $150BRISBANE / GOLD COAST

VDUB has beat me to it. MY GTD is having the same problem. At first I thought I was going crazy because it was an intermittent style of thing. I mentioned it for the second time to my dealer at a recent service and they have checked/re-gassed etc with no real joy. Turns out a compressor kit is needed and my parts are coming on the slow boat but will be done next thursday under warranty etc.2012 MK6 GTD CW DSG Seattle's 3M Black Tint, Michelin PS3's.

I spoke with my service rep yesterday, there is a "revised" item in the deal, original explanation mentioned a new compressor for starters. I'll keep you posted next week, and see if I can score more details.2012 MK6 GTD CW DSG Seattle's 3M Black Tint, Michelin PS3's.

I have the exact same problem now. Had the car re-gased and it's marginally better, but still took 5-10 minutes before any cool air comes out. Also if the car sits in traffic light, there's no cool air, only when I'm driving around 1500-2000 rpm then the cool air coming out.
one guy on US forum said just replace the compressor valve sensor , no need to replace compressor
Wholesale Product Snapshot Product name is Wholesale valve compressor/ FREE SHIPPING
I'm not entirely sure...

Update info......
I had my baby in to get fixed yesterday ..... All done and very happy with the service/warranty work, got a car wash too. Took about 4 hours as expected.
The fix was - change everything... see the pic of my invoice/list.

I'm having the same problem with our Tig, takes about 15mins to get cold. Had the local Auto Elec look at it and he reckons the compressor is shagged and needs all the stuff GTD_XU1 has had replaced. He has had a couple of Tigs, a Passat and some Golfs through for the same thing since the weather started warming up.
Unfortunately ours is 5 months out of warranty so unless VW Australia can be convinced that they should cover the cost we are up for the full cost... There goes the Xmas fund

Had the VW dealer have a look at the aircon and decide how they are going to proceed. They said they found a TPI 2029389/3 that deals with the problem and changed some parts plus gave the air con a software upgrade. Seems to have made the air con work again, but they did say to keep an eye on it and let them know if it fails again. I tried a google search to see what exactly changed, but come up empty. I'd be interested to know why it suddenly stopped working and what the software upgrade did, but as long as it keeps blowing cold air I am happy. Best of all it was free, which is my kind of price range
I'll be doing a 1000km round trip in a few weeks, so that should be a good enough test to see if there are any further issues.

I had the same problem.
Just out of warranty.
VW fixed the compressor under "customer good will".
Cheers
