Has anyone heard anything about the 2014 Tiguan R Line?

Looks the goods, but as it was presented at an American car show, I wasn't sure if VW would release it to the Aus market.

Has anyone heard anything on the grape vine about this?

We don't get the R-Line vehicles here.
They are cosmetic upgrades only anyway.

That sucks... Yeah I know it's only cosmetic, but it looks the goods.

Any news on the 2014 Tiguan which will be released to the Aus market?

Yes this model has been around for a while overseas: Imposing New R Line Model Joins The Tiguan Range

The R-Line spec was even available in the previous shape from as early as 2009.

Agree that the kit looks nice and something that costs a whole lot more if you do it after you've bought the vehicle.

I'm guessing VWA don't think they'll sell enough to make it worthwhile bringing in.

It's a pity as I quite like the body kit and 19's.

We get them here in NZ in dribs and drabs, look quite good but pretty harsh riding by all accounts with the 19s, certainly not something you'd want to use on the rough stuff.

          Cheers

I dont know why anyone would even contemplate buying a Tiguan for the rough stuff. Sure they would be better than a sedan on dirt roads, but going bush in one surely would end in tears

I love the look of the R Line. SO much nicer than the standard car, or even 155 for that matter.

That argument has been done to death, some of us DO use the Tiguan on tracks, paddocks, etc etc and believe that's what they have higher ground clearance and 4 wheel drive for. If you want a pure road car buy a Golf.

I for one can't understand why anybody would contemplate a Tig without 4WD but some do that too !!

              Cheers

Each to their own. This thread is about the R-line kit which I think is the best looking kit for the Tiguan (better than some of the aftermarket kits).

Though the cost of buying the kit in, painting all the parts and then fitting it is quite expensive. You would be much better off buying this as a factory option (if it were available).

Now what you need Derek is the off-road kit with the improved approach angles

I think Derek has the off-road model, or at least did with his 1st Tig.

Touareg R-Line is now here, so its just a matter of time IMO before other R-Lines are introduced.

VWA has already brought in the Tig118 FWD so with the 132 and 155 that already makes 3 levels. I suspect that bringing in an R-line would just take away sales from 155 buyers and not from Honda, Subaru, Toyota, etc.

Which is how I think VWA would look at it. Even though I would love to see this model arrive here I suspect there's not enough differentiation to make it happen.

Unless it gets brought in for a mid model update to bump up sales.

Apologies to the OP !!! I did have the full off-road kit in my first Tig (both body and electronics) but unfortunately it's no longer available in NZ so I just went with the 6 speed auto (which you can still get here and is much better off-road) rather than the DSG for my 2013. So far the lack of hill descent control and the chisel nose haven't effected me too much cos I'm getting older and less adventurous probably lol !!

Cheers (and apologies again to the OP)

@tigger73 - Your in-box is well and truly full! Need to respond to you last message.

The R-Line Tig looks no different to any other US model? Too understated IMO, however, R-Line Touareg looks the goods! (Might just be the new shape though...)

It depends which colour you're looking at but the R-line Tiguan has body coloured lower plastics which looks so much better. Gets away from the 2 tone effect. There's really not a lot to sell grey unpainted plastics.

Obviously keeps the price down but when you're paying $50-$55k for an optioned up 155 they really ought to come with body coloured bumpers and door trims IMO.

This is why I got grey. The grey plastic on a white 155 just looks silly.
