Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Lowering the boot by removing the spare wheel

I am sorry if this has been discussed already but I haven't been able to figure out yet how can I search in the Tiguan subforum only.

I was thinking to remove the spare wheel in the boot and lower it, gaining 10-12 cm extra deepness. The boot of the Tiguan is really small and mostly my wife is driving it, who will not touch the tyre, instead she will call me for help if I am not there.

I could just use a tyre repair kit like this to get me to the nearest tyre shop:
CARAVAN CAMPING TRAILER 2WD 4WD OFF ROAD RACE CAR TYRE REPAIR KIT COMPRESSOR | eBay

I am not worrying about the damage these repair kits can cause, because my tires are old anyway and if anything happens I just replace all 4 of them with new ones.

Has anyone done this already? Lowering the boot to have some extra space?
Actually I did it already and the cover on top of the spare tyre is not perfectly fit on the bottom of the boot, I had to turn it around. Now I am thinking to remove it and replace it with a boot mat, like this:
BOOT LINER CARGO MAT VOLKSWAGEN VW TIGUAN DELUXY VELOUR TYPE TRUNK TRAY- BLACK | eBay
    MY18 VW Tiguan Comfortline
