  • Tyre Mileage - 19" Wheels

    Hi Guys,

Looking for a set of tyres, specifically 19" tyres, and was looking for feedback of what people are running and how they rate them for grip and mileage.

I was hoping to get the 255/40R19 tyres and have found the Kumho KU19 to be quite well priced but am open to going with the 245/40R19 if people have a better option in this size.

I do a few k's for work so want the ballance between something that is not super soft and wears out to quiockly but also don't want something hard as a rock that wont grip at all.

As mentioned wanting feedback from those running 19" wheels already.

    Thanks,

    Michael

I know you normally trade grip for mileage and as I said above want something that will give me decent mileage without being dangerous in the wet.

All three factors are considered when choosing tyres are they not? In my experience spending more does not always guarantee you get a better tyre for the intended use.

Did you have a suggestion based on what tyres you are using on 19" wheels? Eg. How much you paid and the grip and mileage they have provided.

As Brad said, pick 2 of those 3 variables!

I have a set of 19" Bridgestone RE050A 245/40/19's & am really happy with them & was lucky enough to get them on one of those 'get 4, pay for three' deals about 22 months ago. So reckon i got 3 out of the three above-mentioned variables! They were around $320 ea fitted & balanced from memory.

I have around 35000k's on them now & they're probably about half gone or a bit more, should get 60000 out of them...

        Good luck!

In fact you don't trade grip for mileage as long as you are willing to pay for it.

Sorry, no suggestion. I don't run 19" rims

Ok Brad tell me a tyre that has the most grip on the market with the longest mileage. Irrespective of price.

Tyres generally have more grip when they are made of a soft compound rubber and as a result of being soft they are more prone to wear. Or if you believe that I am incorrect and have more knowledge on the matter please eleborate instead of your useless comments above.

I asked peoples opinion so I can make an informed decision on what tyres work well on the Tiguan as tyres behave diffrently on diffrent cars.

I wouldn't recommend the kumho KU31's if you are after a long life tyre.
They are more of a sports oriented tyre so maybe look elsewhere.

tirerack and carbonblack have a good comparison so you can see what is available in AUS and then see how they rate for wear/grip/price.

I agree. The other two factors that often don't go together are grip and noise.

Personally I can ignore noise. My daily drive recommendation would be the new Michelin super sport. I wonder if tirerack has lifted the restriction to export those.
