  • Have VW run out of names for new cars???

What is with the choice of the new name for the concept car as revealed at Sao Paulo motor show??

    I mean, Seriously...."Taigun"...??

Have they run out of letters to use for SUV names??

Can you imagine the confusion this will bring to the market in the years to come??

    Why?

According to the official press release, Taigun means "thundering herd" in Japanese.

Appropriately named for a German car and essentially makes perfect sense for a Tig with just one teste.

Or a bunch of those marketing guys got p!$$ed one night and had taken a fancy to both Tigger73 and your recent game of playing scrabble with the existing letters from "Tiguan" (when debadging & rebadging).

If it goes into production, it's unlikely to keep that name.

Remember what they were calling the Amarok before they greenlighted it for production?

They were calling it the 'Robust' originally.

Well we have the Toureg, Tiguan and then the baby T.....

Now looking at it they've kept the T as the first letter, shifted the g and u and changed 2 vowels and a consonant.

So guessing that the baby 4wd (2wd) is going to be Tujaeg - means "nimble and sprightly" in pigeon Portuguese.

At one stage, VW went through a period of naming cars after well known "winds".

                Winds:
Scirocco - for sirocco, the African desert wind that blows into Italy
                Golf - Gulf stream winds
Jetta - Atlantic Jet stream (
                Passat - Trade winds
                Vento - Blowing/windy
                Polo - after Polar Winds
Bora - after Bora north winds

                Not Winds:
Corrado - Derived from Spanish Correr which means to un.
The original name for the car was Taifun (Typhoon) except it was already a registered trade mark for a GM truck.
Tiguan - combination of the German words Tiger (“tiger”) and Leguan (“iguana”)

Accordingly, Taigun is just an anagram of Tiguan for now, as it is a "baby" SUV based on the UP!.

All the above are googled - I am not that knowledgeable.

                Looks "UP-ish" and cute.

And then there is that ugly SUV called the "Routan" in the USA....
It has the lights and grille of the first Tiguan range...

Here is Aust, it would probably be pronounced "rootin"....kinda makes sense if it is a mini van...!

You forgot the most important one Touareg ( biggest , baddest so on. )
Named after The Tuareg (also spelled Twareg or Touareg) are a Berber people with a traditionally nomadic pastoralist lifestyle. They are the principal inhabitants of the Saharan interior of North Africa.
