  • Timing Chain adjuster US Bulletin 343306

    Hi,

We recently bought a 147 4-Motion Auto (non-DSG) and I read about the above Bulletin. I can't find anything in the Aussie threads, so is this just a US issue? I would have thought they have the same engine there.

Also, the car's warranty will expire in January 2013 and I'm deciding if I should take out the extended warranty. Lastly has there been any Service Recall (can't think of the proper description) on the petrol Tiguans in Australia?

    Many thanks!

      It's probably not relevent here.

Yes, get extended warranty if you plan to keep the car outside it's normal warranty period.

You'll know if there are any outstanding campaigns when you take your car to the dealership for servicing, etc. They will run a check on it. VGA may also send you a letter in the mail advising you of any campaigns.

Appreciate your reply guys! Ok, seems like that tensioner is a US thing then, maybe the engine is not completely similar? As for the earth strap, mine is a 2009, so may be different to your newer car.
I'm still undecided about the warranty. I chose a non-DSG car for obvious reason, but some Golf owners (non-DSG) had issues with their gearbox too! Can't win!
          Cheers!

I think a lot of manufacturers build to warranty period I.e. to minimise the cost of manufacture and have acceptable levels of warranty repairs. If they don't have many warranty repairs then they are clearly over engineering the product and so there is room to cut costs.

Well that is how the bean counters will view it. And whether it's good or bad, bean counters seem to have a fair amount of influence on how a lot of engineered products are built these days.
