Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Tiguan and caravan

    Hello

Anyone charging a caravan battery via an anderson plug fitted and wired to Tiguan battery ???

Need to know if I can connect cables to Tiguan battery without causing a fault in the Tigs electronics

It all depends how will you connect it. The best way is to get 12VDC to 12VDC charger like Red Arc BCDC1220 or BCDC1240. That's the safest way.

Thats what I intend to do but VW have told me that if I connect anything to the battery even a brake controller then the car will pick that up and throw up a fault. I cannot understand how all the other guys on here are able to connect aux amps etc. etc. direct to the battery without causing a problem

What built date is your Tiguan?

The latest one with the stop-start technology could be more sensitive when you put extra load on the battery, but it still should allow you to connect that BCDC1220 to the system.

You will have no problems installing that DC charger to your Tiguan. Our Tig is 2010 and it didn't through the code when I connected BCDC1220.

Thanks for that just when i spoke to the dealer and asked about a brake controller they told me that I cannot connect anything direct to the battery. They also told me the cost would be If I supplied the unit between 750 and 950 dollars just to install it

That's ideal DIY project and if you know the basics about the car el. circuits and follow the instructions which always come with the dual battery systems, you should be able to DIY. Or you could find the independent vw shop who would do it for you. If you go with the BCDC1220 or 40 it's even easier. Check the ebay you can get kit to suit.

I don't recommend the classic dual battery controllers, because the dcdc battery chargers just do a better job and are easier to install.
