Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Congratulations, Jude Starr! Looks great & similar in colour to the Beemer. Any plans for another custom plate for Tiggy?
What's under the tarp? (photo 3?)

Yeah, been thinking about a plate for him, but nothing comes to mind (yet!). He does, however, now have a name: Ludwig von Volkswagen (which goes well with the other red car in the picture...Wolfgang Carmadeus! LOL!). Under the tarp is actually an old bimmer - 1971 1602 (also red) - her name is Helga. And the one you can't see in the pictures is my husband's E30 M3 (Manfred)...guess what colour it is? Yep. Sensing a theme here? Hahaha!

I just don't get why the comfort package isn't standard on any of the non-entry level engine configurations of the Tiguan. When I was considering purchasing a used Tiguan, any vehicle without it was automatically of my list.

Took Ludwig out for his first long run today. I have never owned an SUV or 4WD type car before, but this handles more like a "normal' car and I find it most enjoyable to drive. It corners well, and is also comfortable to ride in as a passenger (well, had to let the husband have a bit of a drive too! ). The seats are very comfy!

I was a touch aprehensive about having an auto (I am used to manuals and generally prefer them) but I have been pleasantly surprised by the responsiveness of the auto transmission, which changes smoothly, both up and down, and gives me power when I require it (eg overtaking).

So, overall, loving this car and very pleased with our choice.

Now, a couple of picture of husband's E30 M3 for baboo:

Hey Jude, Good to hear your views on first drive impressions, mine was very similar except I spent 10 hrs behind the wheel from Brisbane to Mackay so I had plenty of time to play around. I called the wife's Tiguan Suzzie after Suzzie Quattro as it was our first venture into 4WD from the VAG marque. I had to convince myself I was purchasing a modern day Audi Quattro after driving Beemers for 20 years. E30 looks stunning Alpina Red? Is it RHD conversion as the black one next to it looks LHD (wiper arms the other way round)

The E30 is a RHD conversion - done in WA many years ago, long before we acquired it. It's been done very well though...can't tell when you drive it that it's a conversion. It has, unfortunately, been resprayed at some point (with an E36 colour I think), Hell Rot - the original colour was Henna Rot; apparently the rarest of colours they came in. If we ever repainted it, we would go back to the original colour, but that won't be for quite a while as the paint is in good condition.
