  • My 2yrs experience with my Tiguan TDi

    Hi all,

Just want to share my experiences with my Tiguan TDi. Got it in July 2010 and was loving it until I experienced the first problem. As of now, I have clocked just over 50,000kms. So far, my vehicle has been towed back to a Volkswagen dealership 3 times. First time it happened, I was at the lights at the intersection of Punt/Hoddle Rd and Alexandra Ave South Yarra, the engine just died and the vehicle won't start. Can you just imagine the feeling I had at the time, I was stucked there at a busy intersection at peak hour with a new Tiguan !!! the swearing and insults thrown at me so i decided to hide in a corner until the tow truck came. Apparently, problem was due to a faulty fuel sender (left) sensor. Next time it happened was when I was starting the vehicle after a late dinner, same thing won't start. Towed to nearest dealer. Fault due to faulty wireloom. Third was just last Friday morning. Vehicle parked in the driveway, again won't start. Will be posting again as soon as I know what the problem is. Let me tell you, I am starting to lose my confidence in driving this car as I don't know when and where it will let me down next. Anyone having the same problems or is it that I got a vehicle done and completed at the factory on a Friday afternoon????

You seem to have had a bad run with VW. Typically, VW reliability is much better, though they are known for coming up with a lot of niggly faults. This was particularly so with the last gen Golf assembled in South Africa, though the Tiguan is made in Wolfsburg, Germany, and the quality is much better. My Tiguan TDI has 60,000km, and has been to the dealer to fix niggly warranty faults more often as it has been serviced, though only one was a show stopper (Think I was low on fuel, bad Karma with a Diesel). I put this down to the high complexity of the Tiguan, it is full of sensors and bits and pieces that improve performance and economy, but tend to fail. Still not going back to a reliable but agricultural Commodore!
TDI tiguan in the drive. ParkAssist, comfort, fogs
Service every 15,000, new fault code every 7,500km

Sorry to hear, Akoaypinoy... I guess you just got dealt an unlucky hand.

I must have got mine a month before you & am happy to report mine hasn't missed a beat in 46000k's! Have taken it over some pretty harsh tracks, beaches, the snow, the desert, gravelly creek crossings up to the sills deep, along with all manner of freeways & backroads & it's never given me the impression it would let me down. A couple of minor rattles early on that were easily resolved & i am still loving mine every time i drive it.

Here's hoping this is the last time yours stops & you can start enjoying it again!
