Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Tiguan Side Mirror Question

    Hi Guys,
as I am still learning the ins and outs of the Tig I got last week I have noticed two features that used to be somewhat standard but don't seem to be there now.

    1) the automatic lowering of the passenger side mirror when you engage reverse so you can see the kerb. that doesn't seem to be present in the MY12 Tiguan.

    2) Heated side mirrors. The control knob has the heater symbol but I don't see the sign or any heating bars on the actual mirrors.

Can anyone please confirm if these features are present on their Tiguan?

    Cheers

    Bman

Mirror heating is available, no bars are required, i believe the heater resides inside the mirror casing.
In general it would be used for removing ice off the mirror rather than de-fogging.

The folding passenger mirror is a bit of an issue, no one seems to know what options were required to have it fitted (it was meant to be included with leather seats but apparently not all the leather seated cars have it and some cloth seated cars do.)
I believe you have to have the mirror selection knob selecting hte passenger mirror for it to work if you have that option though.

      1) My mirrors (comfort pack + leather) does not have that feature, it would be handy to have that for sure.

      2) The feature is there, on the mirror adjustment knob, but nothing on dash board to show it's active.

Of all cars I have own, Tiguan has the least useful side mirrors, small and with the most useful top outer section chopped off, they are styled for the look but not function.

I believe you may have to set the interior heater to activate as well in order to get the mirror heaters to work (this needs clarification though)

I have found the mirrors to be more than adequate if you use the apropriate mirror setup which eliminates any blind spot.

I think there was some post that automatic lowering requires seat position memory, which is not available here at at all.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I wish there was a clear cut answer but obviously that would be too sensible If I figure something out that can be replicated I will post back here.

            Cheers

Have you tried asking your local dealer about it as they should be able to answer your queries

Hi team_v, yes I did send an email off to the dealer but am still awaiting a response. Will keep you informed if they come back with anything meaningful.

I had the same queries for my MY12 Tig 155 TSI

                  1. The mirror retract icon is not even on the mirror adjuster stalk on driver side door
                  2. The mirror heat icon is there - but like you said, the stalk did not seem to 'click' when moved into that position, and nothing lit up on the dashboard, which suggests to me the function is not present
                  3. I followed the exact instructions in the manual to program in self-tilting for the passenger side mirror and lo' and behold - nothing happened!

It's a bit frustrating when seemingly standard functions described in the manual are not present in Aus-delivered models. The manual did not denote these features as add-ons or options. Maybe Euro markets are more deserving of these 'luxuries?'

But if anyone has had different experiences, I'd be most interested to know...

My dealer assures me the mirror tilt function is present. I'll be taking the car in for them to show me. The told me this feature was present when I bought te car so they could be done for selling me something that wasn't upto spec. I actually have this in writing too.

Would be most interested to see how you go. I concur: tilting mirror would be a nice feature to have
