The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Move your brand new Tiguan from Sydney to Perth

    Hi there,

I have just picked my new Tiguan last week and due to my work relocation, I need to take my car with me from Sydney to Perth. As I am not thinking to drive to there, I'd like to use a transport company to move my car. Have anyone of you used a transport company before? Any suggestions?

    Thanks

I moved a car from Brisbane to Perth and it went via Australia's Leading Local & Interstate Car Transport Provider | Toll Auto

Isn't there are train that runs from Sydney to Perth? Great western railways or something like that... I was told you can drop the car off at the train and pick it up the other side.. Save you having to go through the customs BS if you use a haulage company.. Might be cheaper as well

Sounds like the Indian Pacific, but I thought that only ran to Adelaide. Why would you need customs if it's interstate?

you dont need customs, but cars on trucks get sprayed and quarantined for 48 hours - we don't want to get infected by any eastern states nasties!!

(stoopid rule, because if you drive yourself there's no quarantining????)

I transported a car from Brisbane to Perth and when it arrived it had to go through customs checks and quarantine down in welshpool. Can't remember the haulage company name off hand but this is the norm if you get your car hauled interstate I'm told. As gareth_oau says.. BS rule... Just customs taking their slice of the cake...

trust me, its not customs - customs is a federal government department, looking after international borders.

Its probably some state government environmental department

It goes all the way across; Indian Ocean to Pacific Ocean. You may be confusing it with the Ghan, Adelaide, Alice Springs, Darwin.

                        hi all
I believe that if you send the vehicle on the train and not travel on it as well, the railways charge you megabucks.
However if you accompany the vehicle you get charged a considerably smaller fee.i.e travel as a passenger east to west.
i have friends who are departing the state to live in Victoria and they have just been thru this exercise. They have two cars and five offroad bikes to get across.
                        Cheers Phil

I have used "Car Runners" to ship cars from Perth - Sydney. They do an excellent job. Door to door, 7 days a week & fully insured - it will go mostly by train via Adelaide.
I have followed up with clients once they received the vehicle & feedback was very good, car cleaned...
