For the life of me can't get the iPhone to work through the mdi cable. It charges the phone, but won't register on the RNS510

Hi Toby - question for you. When I was driving an MY 12 Tig yesterday, I noticed a button with a microphone picture on it situated on the left side of the steering wheel (steering control set). What does that do? Does the Tig have voice recognition as well for the phone?

Bought an iPod MDI cable off ebay well before the car arrived. As far as I could tell, looked genuine. When I plug the phone in, it charges, but doesn't register on the RNS display. Maybe a faulty cable?
As for the 'microphone' button. It enables voice commands for what ever you have displayed on the RNS. So if you've got the radio on you can change presets and that type of thing.MY12 155TSI TIGUAN - Comfort Pack, Beige Leather, Sat Nav, Bi-Xenons, 18" New York Alloys, Park Assist 2.

Hi all, doesn't the mdi cable get included as standard? I've asked my dealer the question several mes and thy assure me the cable is included.
Toby, have ou tried using just a simple iPod with our cable to see if that allows control. My iPhone 4s did some funny stuff whn I tried to connect it to my ford.
Having said that when driving a tig yesterday, I found piping music from he phone to the Tig via Bluetooth worked just fine.

Did a trip down to the Gold Coast for the weekend. Overall, absolutely loving the new ride. It's not a massive trip, and some driving in traffic at Surfers this afternoon saw overall average consumption at around 10l/100km. The 18's provide a firm but by no means uncomfortable ride.
The transmission has taken some getting used to. At times, especially at low speeds, it can feel much more like a manual than a auto. And as talked about in great detail elsewhere in the forum, I find it can upshift early to the point where it feels/sounds like the engine is labouring.
Still playing around with things, the voice commands work quite well. I've found the sunglasses compartment to be useless unless you have tiny reading glasses. My sunglasses nor my girlfriends would fit.
Has at times turned heads. Would have had an awesome photo op, had I not gone to take the photo and discover my batteries were flat. Pulled up at the hotel, to park behind a gorgeous red Ferrari while we checked in. The black Tiguan did not look out of place behind the Lady in Red.
From what I'm coming from, the 155 Tig certainly has plenty of pickup once you get out of the blocks. Would think the APR1 would be something else! Still plenty of time to think about that.
Also, definitely need to get some mats. Seems as though the going price on eBay is about $90+delivery. I can't decide whether to get carpet or rubber.Last edited by TobyJ82; 13-05-2012, 11:58 PM.MY12 155TSI TIGUAN - Comfort Pack, Beige Leather, Sat Nav, Bi-Xenons, 18" New York Alloys, Park Assist 2.

Oddity in regards to MFD display the total average fuel consumption. Was down around 8.0 when driving home last night. But come this morning is giving strange readings of over 20l/100km.
Not getting total and trip averages mixed up. But did coincide with having about 50km to empty displayed.MY12 155TSI TIGUAN - Comfort Pack, Beige Leather, Sat Nav, Bi-Xenons, 18" New York Alloys, Park Assist 2.

Are you sure it was the average (0 with a diagonal line through it) or real time fuel economy when it was reading 20?
I only get 20 when i track the car at lakeside..........

Avg 1 will reset after an hour or so, therefore, when you start it up and drive off the fuel economy is pretty high at the start.
Goes down after a km or 2 though i found.
Avg2 is the one you want to have displayed.
I believe you press ok when avg1 is selected.

I did have it on Avg 2 rather than Avg 1.
Also, the time to service display was blank for about the first 500km, but as now come up with some info display next service in 21400km or 540km. Given that the first service is 15000km, seems strange?MY12 155TSI TIGUAN - Comfort Pack, Beige Leather, Sat Nav, Bi-Xenons, 18" New York Alloys, Park Assist 2.
