Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Has anybody activated this option in the #9 module using VCDS on their Tiguan? The brake lights are supposed to flash when brakes are pressed hastily. I tried pressing really hard and nothing happened. Must the car be actually moving to trigger the function if so by how much?

    Most likely.

Yes, only happens on an emergency stop. You can also set it so that you hazards flash in this instance, which is what various other new cars also do (you sometimes see it on car review shows like TopGear UK when they brake hard on a race track).

If the vehicle is so equipped (or the function is enabled), when braking in an emergency, the brake lights will flash automatically above 60 km/h or when the ABS is activated for more than 1.5 seconds.

When the speed falls below 10 km/h, the brake lights stop flashing and the hazard warning lights come on. They will switch off automatically once you drive off.

The owner's manual is vastly underrated in this forum.

They should provide two copies of the manual, one to keep in the car and one to keep next to your PC

Thanks for that Transporter & Ryan_R I will try it out on a quiet road tomorrow. Diesel_ vert this feature is not discussed in any of my 2008 Tiguan user manual modules. I came across this feature in the tweaks section of the Ross Tech's wiki link to the Tiguan during my research to enable my recently installed RVC to my rcd510. This feature was disabled in my car hence my query on the forum

I find that hard to believe, but then again, I find that VW's owner's manuals are rather user unfriendly.

Logically, one would've assumed that this safety feature would be standard across the range, from the Polo to the Phaeton, seeing how it's just a software mod, but I digress.

There are a number of options listed in the VCDS that are not even discussed in my users manual in addition to the above eg the option for your windows and sunroof if fitted, to be closed automatically using the rain sensor mounted on the windscreen should it rain. Suggest you do an auto scan of your modules and browse the long coding options that are available for standard but not activated

Yes, although unlike the frivolous comfort and convenience features, I'd have thought such a helpful, if not fundamental, safety feature would be standard across the board.

But it would appear that isn't the case. Oh well, looks like I was wrong. Nice one VW.

Thanks for that aussietig I had the other half wind the Tiguan up this am and put the anchors on! Got the hazards to kick in but no flashing brake lights, maybe this is available on newer models as mine is a June 08 model. Will try a few of your other options you ad on your link

Mine is a 2008, part of the second shipment to NZ in about June and this feature definitely works for me. Only had it come on once when I had a REAL emergency braking episode, ASB chattering the whole drama, from 110kph to 0 in about ..... that long. Only thing I can't remember is if they went off automatically or if I had to press the red triangle ? I DO remember wondering what the indicator click click sound was though and initially thought I'd hit the indicators in the "panic" process !!

As far as I'm aware this was a feature from day one on the Tig. It also unlocks the doors if they're locked, cuts the ignition and I "think" cuts the fuel. Those things must reset though because I was certainly able to drive away a few seconds later.

                        Cheers
