Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Excitement plus.......

Well, not such a long wait after all. Ordered my 132 Pacific on March 11 and picked it up yesterday (April 30). It was unloaded at Port Kembla on the 15th April, so all in all not too bad.

I've only driven it from the dealer to home so far, about 50kms but it seems fantastic so far! I've been busily reading the manuals (like War and Peace) and it is now obvious how many little things I wasn't aware of which are terrific options. I just have to remember how to use them!

Despite previous problems I've read on the forum regarding Bluetooth connectivity for Android phones, my Samsung Galaxy Ace paired up and operated perfectly first time. Phone books loaded and all. Very happy about that.

One question about iPod and MDI please.....it all works brilliantly, however I don't see how I can "turn off" the iPod when I leave the car without removing the iPod from the centre console, disconnecting the cable and physically turning the iPod off. Am I missing something here? Is there a way to turn it off from the car controls? Just a small issue, but I'm sure someone will have an answer.

So excited - going for a spin before work..

Cheers all, and if anyone has advice re the iPod matter I'd sure appreciate it.

    Thanks

Congrats. I don't think the iPod turns off, but it should be charged by the car when it's on so if the iPod is permanently staying in the car it shouldn't be a massive problem (otherwise you could always get a 32GB USB stick that doesn't require power).

Also remember a lot of accessories/options are available on eBay from Europe for a much better price compared to the dealer.

Thanks for the prompt responses guys -

MGV - no mate, I'm a boring old 50yo and the only thing I'll probably add is roof bars to carry my surf boards

The Pacific does come with some cool extras though, and I am currently up to page 105 in the owners manual trying to figure them all out !

Ryan, thanks mate. I've been playing around with it on my way to work today (via Supercheap autos where I picked up a microfibre waffle cloth and glove) and it appears that the iPod "pauses" the song being played when you either turn the car off, or swap to the radio. As soon as you re-select the MDI it resumes where the song was. That's terrific - I just don't know whether the iPod is shut down or not.

You're right, as it is being constantly powered it is probably not a great deal - my inquisitive self just wonders over random things........

Thanks - off to try and find out some more tricks that I am currently unaware of !

Good to hear. If you have any other issues with MDI have a look through this thread:

Thanks again Ryan - I'll have a look during the day.......so much to read ! I remember when you bought a car, got the keys and drove it !

            All good thanks

Oh, and by the way any sign of songs skipping a few seconds, and poor transitions between songs especially on "Mix" are not evident.

I was a bit paranoid before picking up the car after reading the negative posts as I am a music tragic, with 160g of music on my iPod - so to have it all operating seamlessly on day one is a massive relief.

            Thanks again.

Your new car probably has the latest MDI firmware updates preinstalled

Congrats on the purchase. Under a two month wait there! That was pretty good. Have been told mine will be ready early May, so I'm taking that as anytime before the 15th.

Getting a little excited now, and am also looking forward to finding out all the neat little things about it!

Toby, it's worth the wait mate.

I was initially really lucky (or so I thought) that my dealer was able to source a car from another yard almost immediately - then the day before I was due to collect it about 3 weeks ago, they found the drive train had been damaged in delivery to their yard.

So, I had to wait for their next delivery to arrive and as you said, it ended up being pretty lucky that I was able to pick mine up last night. It arrived on the Toledo into Port Kembla on the 15th April, so the turn around to delivery was pretty quick.

I am at work with it parked out back, so every chance I get I am wandering out there to experiment with stuff I've read about. So far, so good. As you mentioned, there are heaps of neat little things to explore.

Looking forward to a short trip on the weekend to give it a run.
