Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Is the Tiguan a generally "easy to drive" vehicle (in manual transmission)?

    Hey guys,

I am thinking of buying the all new Tiguan 132TSI some time soon in manual and not DSG, but I was concerned it would be hard to drive (and park) due to the turbo lag it may have and its big size (compared to my sister's mini cooper which I seldom drive)

Could you guys prove me wrong on these points? I really enjoy the styling and practicality of this SUV but since I am a novice driver I am not sure if it is a good choice.

    Thanks!

Sorry for the double post but on the site it says 132TSI Pacific, what is the Pacific model?

    Thanks again.

It's no different to driving any other car. You won't even notice any turbo lag unless you stick the boot in at 2500rpm in 5th or higher. Parking isn't an issue at all.

Go and take one for a drive and decide for yourself.

I bought a 6sp manual 118 and it's easy and light to use. Gearbox is slick and gear spacing is good.
Parking is easy but then I traded down from a Territory. My wife also bought another manual 118, trading up from a Mazda 3. She also loves it. From a size perspective the car is close to perfect. It's not actually that big, it just looks like it should be in a reverse Tardis sort of way if that makes sense!
The high driving position gives excellent all round vision, but it handles like a normal car for 98% of round town driving, even the spirited sort that I tend to do

Turbo lag is virtually non existent in mine which has been tuned and also in my wifes standard 118, but maybe the supercharger helps there a little so I'll let other 132 owners talk about that.

      Enjoy!

im not a big fan of the transmission and I drive manual132TSI Pacific. The reason why I dont like is bcuz I used to drive sports car with better ratio n it was shorter to shift gear.. IMHO

I think AWD is bit harder around the corner. when i test drove 118tsi it feels like sedan due to FF system

Parking is so easy and also tiguan has good field of view. no huge pillar to block the view like honda jazz.

pacific comes standard with comfort pack, F n R parking sensors n park assist 2.. Which I think is adequate technology for car these days. n also very practical to drive. fuel consumption is okay. should be easy to get 650-700km/tank

Ultimately comes down to you. If youre used to the mini the tiguan will seem huge. But if youre used to a sedan or similar you'll hardly notice any difference.

The biggest difference will probably to your advantage with the higher ride position.

Ive got a manual tiggy and its a breeze to drive esp with auto hold. I find it even easier to drive than an auto even in heavy traffic. Parking is just the same as any car like others have mentioned you have excellent view all round. My only gripe is the front passenger seat soemtimes the headrest blocks view out of the rear back window but thats only a minor issue.

There is hardly any turbo lag in the tiggy especially in parking conditions. A wee bit when you put your foot down on normal driving but if that really bothers you take it to an APR dealer and the extra torque you get should satisfy your road rage.

Seriously take one for a test drive and compare it with a few other vehicles to make up your own mind. Some ppl love the tiggy others hate it.

I find it really easy to drive the 6MT tiggy.
Slick gear shifts (could be a tad shorter i guess) and definitive gearing.
Ratio's are good (1st is a bit short)

Parking is fine, awd means the turning circle isn't the greatest, if anyhting the rear visibility might cause an issue but you quickly learn just where the car is.
